Out of the 650 Raw images on my new Sandisk extreme III shot with a 40D this one came out like this.....also i had 2 corrupt files that didnt get imported....never had this happen, was it because i shot raw? also i always format my cards...
Yes, it happens. After receiving a new card I do a full format in computer and then a full test of the card (takes an hour or so). If that is OK, I reformat the card again, write a spanned archive file that fills every byte of the card, check the hash to verify the data, and repeat the process two more times. If the previous tests are successful, I also shoot a continuous sequence of the test chart, measure the buffer clearing time, and convert the raw files. I've found a bad card and fixed a couple of corrupted cards this way.
