I like the head on shot a lot Danno... great BG, great symmetry, the only thing better would be full front lighting but this is still cool.
#3 is a very nice image too... beautiful light, nice comp, and great detail.
Nice work.
I think technically this shot is extremely difficult to do well. To get a sharp focus lock on a bird coming right at you is very challenging and you nailed it. Compositionally this is a difficult shot to frame because of the wide wingspan, it naturally leads to a more "landscape panning" frame which looks odd when it comes to single subject wildlife photograph. If you open up the frame then unfortunately it makes the subject smaller and you lose a lot of the details of the subject. I think you did a great job on this type of shot but since the profile of the bird is thinned out when coming right at you, it doesn't let me appreciate the beauty of its wings, feathers and other details I like to admire in a bif shot ya know. Ok just my 2cents...

Well....... I just deleted a whole bunch of Snow Geese and Mew Gulls head on like that but I do think this one works. Not sure why when I didn't like mine The other two are nice IF's Dan with nice light
#1 is a beautiful symetrical pic Dan and well done on your patience and endurance to get it.
Having said that I don't think it portrays the motion of the bird which is in your other pics. Also one does not get a good look at the birds eye and this makes it more difficult to relate to the subject. Thats why generally, even if, as in this case, technically its a great shot, I think these pics do not work. I posted one or two of them and I see from other posts that they always get mixed reviews.
Good to keep experimenting though and to raise the issue with a fine pic like this

I was trying to take some Geese head-on (staright incoming) IF late yesterday. I was able to get ONE pretty much straight on incoming w/ this wing spread. I kinda like it but not sure if it is your cup of tea kinda shot . I had to tilt/rotate about 5 degree clockwise to level the wings a tad. Sorry about the side lighting. That was my only angle to work with. I did a symmetrical crop/comp for this type of shot becuase I think it maybe more appropiate. What do you think? All C&C are welcome. Thank you
