Getting pissy with me is understandable. Same goes for JClay, Mike Malone, Red, CarminaF, Sergio and several others that at times are a little less then "civilized" on the boards. However, picking a fight with Baines is beyond me. I can't think of a classier guy. He's been nothing but kind on the board and a big help to those that consider themselves novice. Quote from a past thread from you:
"First, thanks for including your equipment. It helps novices like me! Also, I hope the forum regulars don't take my critiques as ornery since I haven't posted any pics. I just don't know how! "
Anyway, not sure why your sight are on Baines. Prepare for web-hell if you continue to troll though. Cheers.

I have to kind of agree with you here Gary. Makes me think posting work isn't such a great idea.
Another +1 to this. If not the whole site, then at least the People/Wedding forum type stuff where business people are posting their work for professional critique. Leave the equipment forums open to the public as they are a great resource.

There is nothing wrong with critiques, input and improving ourselves, and it shouldn't be hard to act professionally. Many people here do these things well. I'd hate to see these boards shut off to the general public. It's actually the fun thing about searching online... very often when I google something related to photography, the top links all bring me back to fm, and often into the wedding forum. Sometimes to threads I've seen in the past and had forgotten about, but have good info to review. There are likely some good active members here who found the fm wedding forum in such ways.
There's been more than once that I've thought about posting a topic "All roads lead to FM", but it seemed kind of lame. Everyone knows this already, don't they?
Great timing on this thread E. I was in awe of some recent threads and comments directed at the client. Highly unprofessional considering the company that we keep. I've always enjoyed the level of professionalism displayed here which is why FM is my home.
Re: FM SEO. This is why I've stuck with a screen name and omit my site URL. I don't feel comfortable with clients easily finding critiques, potentially about them and not specically photo tech.
1) I would hate to see FM locked down where people need to be logged in to read comments... MAYBE just the wedding forum (keep it to the togs) but still... I'm on the fence on that one...
2) If you don't have a nice way of saying what you need to say, but need to get your point across... why not PM it. Granted, I have only done that in places like Flickr, but still, others here sometimes have critical comments.

I'd also like to add that crude and harassing PMs are unnecessary. Mocking posts will not get the poster to recant...rather retaliate. Keep it clean and don't be assholes, and we'll all get along.

I'll agree and I'll also go ahead and say since I was the recipient of one said email--albeit quite harassing, no harm intended. Your jobs as professional photographers is to make the best of the brides...if there is a slightest hint that a particular photo is not flattering, it should not go on a worldwide forum and be expected that *not one* comment be taken out of context.

If you are going to continue this silly fued you invented with Evan I'm afraid you're going to find the entire forum against you. Not just because we all really like Evan , but also because you are entirely 100% in the wrong.
Back to the topic at hand, I don't think this place should be locked for viewing or that Fred would even do that. It would be a false sense of security anyway since your clients could just register. If you want to vent without worrying about DWF is probably the best spot, I don't know what that place is like I doubt any client would pay for the fee to see what you are saying.

Troll (Internet)
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion
I'd also add that aside from the fact that prior clients could find their way here, sometime new clients find us here as well. I've gotten two clients from here for instance. It wouldn't hurt to keep that in mind as well when offering critique to our fellow photographers about their work.
I'll be the first to admit that I can think of a couple of things I've posted over the time I've been here that may not have been super-beneficial to someone if a potential client were to read it. All I can do is say that I'll try harder... and also that I'll gladly edit any post I make if you feel soemthing I wrote might harm your business.
Without being rude and making comment about brides ect, people should be able to make comment or start any topics without being worried that a client may read their thread, and then get bad vibes or the wrong impression.

Not on a public forum, no. If you don't want the bride to ever read any comments you write, Digital Wedding Forum is probably a better spot, keep in mind there is a fee.
Great reminder. Keep the critique positive and professional.
I've been so uncomfortable with a few threads where the looks of the clients were derided. Even after the OP asked the mods to delete the comments, it may take awhile.
And if anyone should notice that such a comment has been made, don't hesitate to report it. The OP may have posted, and then left to work all day, and come home to find inappropriate posts on his/her thread.
Honest rapport between wedding photographers will always be in short supply on a public wedding forum .. for the obvious reasons.
Paid membership forums where proof of your working pro credentials are a solution, and perhaps a necessary one as the content quality of discussions on free forums continues to decline.
