p.1 #1 · nikon capture nx

Is there a free Nikon Capture NX like the Canon DPP. I have just moved from Canon to NIkon and find it hard to believe we have to pay a lot of money for the software. I have tried the 60 day trial offered and liked it a lot. I also have Photoshop CS3 and Lightroon Beta 3 but i find the PP easier and shorter in Nikon Capture NX.

A very unfortunate part of Nikon is not including software that is included by every other manufacturer. So be it.

Just buy and consider it money well spent.

Like Louis said, Nikon View NX is free and works well. The software you have to pay for, Capture NX, offers advanced editing features.

A lot of money? It's a buck and a quarter and much better than the free that you got from Canon.

I used PhotoShop for years exclusively. Initially when I compared PS to the original Capture, I got better results with PS. When NX came along, the results were far superior. It's worth every penny.

I still use PS, but no longer for the raw conversion.

i did the same thing last year but to compare dpp to NX2 is a disservice... heck the horizontal tool itself is worth the price of admission. you will love the full featured raw tool. use it in conjunction with the free viewNX and nikon transfer.

i too longed for a simple free app untill i played with capture NX2 and bought jason odells ebook on using it.... although there are many free options for learning it and videos etc.

good flickr group too on nx2 that a nikon rep frequents.

like dpp was for canon NX2 is to nikon, great colors and skin tones along with reading all in camera settings.

while i enjoyed canon and still use their printers i am a firm nikon lover now.

me thinks money well spent.... YMMV

I like my NX2 but the leveling tool sucks. I love Lightroom how you can just crop and grab image and turn it and see the results live. I wish they put that in CS4 or NX2.
