p.1 #1 · Boys don't have ALL the fun

A small village on the south shore of the island of Crete, Greece.
These sisters didn't let the giant loaves of fresh bread stop them from going out of their way to play in the puddle.
Scanned from slides and converted. All kinds of technical problems here with the processing, but I thought the fun-loving girls were worth it.

Great capture Charlie! I love this moment, but I have to try to relate this to my own life. . . I think I would have gotten a bigish shoe on my rear if I was carrying around bread like that in a puddle. There so much I like about this. In the first, the girl on the right looks like she is proud of having a grown up task to do, like carrying the bread, but is a little unsure. The older girl looks like she's trying to act older than she is. The older girl is even making sure her dress won't get wet, something I'd bet she's seen her mother do. Very nice candid shot.

Thanks, guys.
I'd forgotten all about this village until I began writing about Crete. And luckily I came across some photographs of it recently.
I like to think their mom would have looked at a few (possible) mud spatters on the loaves, brushed them off, frowned briefly and told the girls to go wash their feet.

Who cares about that! These great shots are about the place, time, and great emotion they bring to the viewer. When it takes both arms to carry a loaf of bread, you've got some small kids and large loaves! Good stuff!

Beautiful images Charlie. They remind me of the famous image of the boy running with a baguette in the streets of Paris. That bread is nearly bigger than their bodies!

When capturing such photos, the technical side is of minor importance.

One reason I prefer this forum to any others I've come across is that so many of you respond to the point of my photographs, not the technical expertise that I so obviously don't have.
