I had a client having a problem settling an account on PayPal it turned out it was over his amount limit. I split the invoice into two smaller values, the first went through the second failed. He settled with a personal check, not sure if this is the same as your client but worth asking what the error actually was.

my solution for this was to sign up for paypal virtual terminal for people who either don't want to do it online or can't get it to work, it allows you to take their info over the phone to process their payment

it sounds like you didn't have a business account with paypal, once converted to business account those limits are lifted

I've had users copy and paste my paypal addy and errantly include the space after our paypal address. That causes an error in paypal. I've successfully sent 15k in one shot, so as long as the end user is a business not an individual it isn't a problem. If you're not listed as a "business" there is a limit, I believe, on the amount you can receive in a given period.

Don't automatically assume user error .. PayPal will unilaterally refuse certain transactions without offering a reason. And these are good transactions with proper information provided by the customer. Which has the effect of ticking the customer off.

Just google PayPal .. you can't even find their mailing address, but you can find 6 pages worth of "PayPal Sucks" websites. 'Nuff said.

If you have not had any problems with PayPal, just wait a while .. your turn will come.

I hate paypal
they are stupid
when I bought my 1ds2 from this guy in new york he told me how he used to work for them and said that they hold onto your money and purposely F things up so that they can sit back and collect interest on your money while it is in limbo in the bank system.

No, I had a business account for at least 2 years at that point.

The bride called Paypal. They said they didn't know why the transaction wasn't processing and to call her credit card. She called her credit card and they said they weren't stopping it from going through.

As far as the above, you have to do an extra step to become verified to receive funds like that.

If your bride is struggling with paypal, tell her to call them. They have great customer service. I have dealt with them twice out of being robbed, and they were very helpful... but that was my next point:

I had $2010 taken from my checking account in $200 increments a few months back. Paypal has no idea how the thieves got my info, but were able to reverse all of the transactions.

I still like paypal, but be wary.

Face it .. PayPal has a terrible record of keeping customer information secure. There are thousands of cases of PayPal customers having their accounts "broke into". Employee theft or carelessness, take your pick. Either way at some your wallet will get picked by PayPal.

This nearly happened to me once.

I was sent an email about a second chance offer on an ebay bid I didnt get. I was fooled by both an authentic looking email with a plausible reason to login through the page sent to me and also by my need for the item.

I logged in, nothing. It just asked me to log in again.

I then realised after about 30 seconds that I had just given a third party my login details for ebay. This also meant a direct link to paypal etc.

I contacted bank and all and changed p/words.

Spoke to a droid at ebay who didnt seem to understand that there was a problem and just said 'I suggest you keep your passwords more secure' but didnt see a reason to keep an eye on my account and monitor login attempts ??!!

Spoke to a different ebay droid who understood what was going on and was more proactive. Dont know what came of it.

Another option for the B&G who want to pay by credit card, is have them use the balance transfer checks that credit card companies sometimes send to their customers.

I despise paypal. Got 'hands slapped' for detailing my own account; however, see paypalsucks.com for similar stories.
Will not use them on principal.

did you have the client consider the echeck option? I just learned how to use it when I bought a camera off the buy and sell forum. The party would have to verify their bank account on Paypal to get that to work. then you could get your funds in 2 days. Not chargeback prone if they used a credit card...and as a consumer, you typically only have 90 days to dispute a charge on your credit card.
