p.1 #1 · How can you tell a 50D Refurb?

If I pick up a 50d with no box, how can I tell it is a refurb, does it say on it?

Thanks for any quick response!

The camera was used, then? In that case how does it matter?
A Canon refurbished product is supplied in a white or brown box, usually with foam filler. The definition of refurbished goods includes demos, new returned stock and used/repaired.

Thanks, I know they don't have original boxes, which is why I'm curious to know if it says refurb on the camera (because some sellers don't have a box). Mainly want to know for pricing negotiations, as the camera is being offered as near new low actuations, usually refurbs sell for less used.

There's a gold, circular refurb sticker on the bottom of the camera.

But it removes cleanly.

Most legitimate stores will not charge a restocking fee for a refurb if you need to return it. You just never know whether the item will be in "as new" condition or show distinct usage. It should not look beaten up, though.

It still has the toilet paper stuck to its shoe from the first dump it took.

I understand you may want (as a matter of trust & confidense) 'full disclosure' from the seller but keep in mind that used is used no matter how minty the camera is & whether or not it's a refurb...It's one of the 'pit-falls' of buying used. However, a legitimate seller should not feel insulted to show you an original reciept if you ask them. Also, (my recommendation...) always be prepared to walk away from a potential deal if you are not 100% comfortable no matter how good the deal may seem! BTW, I don't keep boxes for my equipment either (& lot's of other people don't keep boxes).

HTH,
Omar
