I know this is probably a basic fix but I dont know how to do it.
My catalogue says that the file is off line or missing. how do i show the cat where the files are once they have been imported?
I've got a similar question...is there a way to tell LR to find a whole bunch of folders on a new drive that I've migrated a ton of stuff to? The file structure is exactly the same. I don't want to click and find every single one since it would take forever..seems like there should be an easier way when all that's changed is the drive letter...
I believe if in LR you have folders such as c:/photos/shoot1, shoot2, shoot3, etc you can right click the Photos folder and find it there, and everything will fill in. I have my catalogs & folders on a USB drive and every once in a while the drive will switch letters and thats how I reconnect everything
Okay~ can someone help me too... I was watching a how to video and imagine my surprise when Matt (from LRKiller Tips) clicked on his WB and had lots of drop down options like you do on a camera~ where all I have is as shot, custom and auto?? Umm where are my other options like shade, tungsten, etc Help!!!!!
Update:
Okay I think I figured it out, is it because I am working on jpegs instead of raw images?

It may be quicker to move all the files back to where they were, then move them inside Lightroom. Any other way is impossibly laborious and time consuming...

Yes there is and I just recently did it. Go to grid view in Library Mode. Click on a project that you know is missing files. The pics should load up with a "?" next to them. Click the "?" on one of the images and you will have the option to reconnect that file. In the same dialogue box is a prompt to do something like "find files in similar paths" or something to that effect. Check that box and hit OK. The computer will reconnect everything from that project located in/around the new file locations. Takes about 1 minute for every 500 files

Scott,
another poster hinted at the answer but just in case you don't have the whole tree showing in Lightroom... keep in mind that you can right-click a folder and choose "show parent" if you do this all the folderst aht are siblings of this one will bunch up under the parent and it will indeed be much easier to relocate a bunch of folders.

Hmmm...so, suppose my file structure looks like this: G:/photo_archive/2006/5_16_06_some_bunch_of_images/. I usually import only one folder at a time into LR, so the parent directory isn't immediately visible...all it will usually show in the drive box is "5_16_06_some_buch_of_images". It's always been easy to find things in the folders that way if I need to. Can I still tell LR to look up the directory tree and find the other folders there? If I could tell it to scan the entire photo_archive folder it would make life a whole lot simpler... Well, it would make that part of my life simpler. Don't think it will help my kids sleep better, or make my job any easier .
Maybe I should have been importing from higher up the directory tree...say at the year level? You can always tell it to ignore duplicates, which there would be a bazillion of after a while...that way when I migrate all my stuff to a new array I would only have to tell it where to find the yearly folders to reconstruct it in the catalog... Not that this stuff gets moved around all that much, but sooner or later it's probably going to happen again.
Hate to have to do that at this point though...I'd almost rather stab myself in the head than enter 20K images back into my catalog...

I've found that clicking on the ? symbol on a picture, you can direct lightroom to where that one file is. Then the catalog figures out the rest for that one picture. PM me if you have questions - I dont' have LR on this computer, but I will have access to it later and can help you out more. I've had all sorts of issues, from busted harddrives to completely missing folders, so I have figured out a lot of catalog issues.

This happened to me when I moved or renamed the files outside of lightroom.
Just make sure to do any renaming in LR and you should be OK.
This usually happens when you have stored images on a removable drive and have chosen "import from disc". When LR tries to open the current catalog, it can't find the media. Simply put your removable back "on line".
This can also happen when you've changed folder names. You can use the "find missing folder" function to have LR search your drives to discover its new location.
Remember, LR does NOT copy the actual image files if you've imported "from disc". Then it only gets the pathname and saves adjustments you make in the LR catalog. It is a non-destructive method to apply adjustments. It will always need the original files available after "importing" them. It is only saving adjustment settings in the LR folder.
