p.1 #1 · OM for Nikon

Pardon me if this has been mentioned in this forum already, but I didn't think I had seen it yet. Looks like Leitax now has mount replacements for Olympus OM lenses to Nikon mount. Even infinity focus, which I didn't think was possible, although admittedly I've never used or handled an OM lens, I just assumed it wasn't possible without major surgery. Looks like we're almost at the point where the alt guys can use most of their lenses with either a Nikon or Canon (or maybe even Sony) system. Fun times.

Just looked over the conversion, it's pretty major. The entire back portion of the lens mount is replaced, which makes sense. Seems a little more fiddly since a spring has to be added, but appears entirely do-able.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.
The conversion really doesn't look bad. The 50/1.2 doesn't even require a spring, just a little plastic spacer. There are no instructions for the 100/2, time to send them an email...

I guess I should order a couple of 50/1.2s before they hike up in price..

And maybe a 100/2...

OM lenses are very easy to remove the mount. I've done it 10+ times. I wish I knew this before I sold my entire Zuiko lens colection. 40/2 and 21/2 on the D700 would have been amazing.

I loooove my OM 100/2... If I am to be left with three lenses in life, it would be AIS 35/1.4, Noct Nikkor and OM 100/2.

How would you rate the 100/2 vs. the 105 2.5 AI-S? bokeh/sharpness wise? and size?

I guess I don't see the OM 90mm or the 40mm listed. Wonder if they can convert those as well.

If this works, I will be using the 24mm, 40mm, 50mm, 90mm, and the rest on my D700

I know, and I'm crying inside. If I knew this was in the works I would have never sold my 40/2, but I'm glad you gave it a good home.

Oh Crap, Now the prices will skyrocket with the increased demand from the Nikon shooters.

I'll never get the rest of the collection, I am still missing the 21 and the 18.

18/3.5 and 100/2 is tempting. But if the 50 1.2 is bad, that is not so tempting.

It's not bad, but it's not better than the Nikkor 50/1.2 and not even close to the Noct. It is a good lens, but I don't see a point in converting it when there are plenty of 1.2 options for Nikon.

Here are the lenses possibly worth converting: 21/2, 40/2 and 100/2. Everything else out there has a better Nikon-mount equivalent. With the 100/2 I'd say the ZF 100/2 is better or as good and I like the 105/1.8 better than the 100/2.

Hmm, I've just heard so much bad abou tthe 105/1.8 from 1.8-2.8. The zf 100/2 is tempting though..

You can give all my OMs a try (on a Canon obviously) whenever you feel like, Ulrik. That 50/1.2 was way first alt lens, and I still love it. But it gets ignored these days.

Ah, we have to have a cup of coffee again soon then! I'm a bit worked up about my exams (last ones ever :P ) these days, but after the 18th, I'm free and ready!

Ah, oh... I have a 90/2 and a very much like new 24/2.8 some Nikon guy may want to try...

I haven't tried any of the leitax options but I really like the idea of changing the mount rather than fiddle with adapters. I wonder if it is possible to add chips to the leitax mounts?

You don't need to add chips on a Nikon pro-DSLR (D200 or better). The camera supports full exif and focus confirm without any electronics.

Interesting. I doubt it will drive prices much higher, as they are already fairly high for the OM glass (mainly since it's so damn good. And some of it is uncommon). Still, at least the nikon kids get to share the OM love now. ;-)

The OM 50mm f1.2 is one of the better 50mm lenses I have used - especially at f1.2. It is comparable to the Nikon 50mm f1.2 and to the Rokkor 58mm f1.2. Maybe it's possible you had a bad sample to try out.

Got an email back quickly from Leitax saying that they hadn't tried the 100/2 since they don't have one, but I ordered one anyway since he said he'd accept a return if it didn't work out. Stoked to use this on digital...

I am suspicious that if the 50/1.8 doesn't work that the OM 40/2 won't work either.

Here's what David from Leitax said;
"...the only one that cannot use my mount is the 50/1.8 because its mount is made of two pieces, instead of the usual one piece mount you can see at the instructions."
