I think it has something to do with the settings on the flash. I can set up my Sony flash and it fires, but when I try to do the Canon flash I am not getting it to work.

I thought I had it working before, but now I am scratching my head.

I am just using the cybersync transmitter (CST) and CSRB

Before I even submitted my message, I must have changed something.... ugh, not even sure what, but I got it to work again with the Canon flash. My guess is the Sony flash is just simpler in functions/menus.

I do hope to get it all figured out because I was thinking about getting another CSRB and possibly another CST so I can have one on each camera and have a receiver on 2 flashes.

More than anything, I just want this to work 100% of the time and I am still learning all the functions of the manual flash settings. Up till now I always just used my flash on camera.

I wanted to see if I could get it working again... now it's not firing with the Canon but does with the Sony like before. I am trying to figure out what I am doing that is messing it up. I have been reading the manuals and such.

so now I am thinking it might be the cable supplied with the cybersyncs that is the cause of the problem.

Well I am glad to have found this thread.
I am struggling over the decision to buy Cyber Syncs myself. I have heard good things but bad bad things in relation to the 580exii. I wanted to avoid the expense of Pocket Wizards but the more I learn about Cyber Syncs I am hesitant to drop the cash. I wrote an email to PCB customer service - they were super helpful - here is one of their replys.

"the PC terminal on the side of the 580EXII seems slightly on the small side, and the included PC cord will fit loosely (thought it fits snugly on my camera and various hotshoe adapters). You can crimp the connection for better contact, or you can use our SLFA (speedlite foot adapter). This provides a miniphone connection, which is a more reliable connection. "

For me - I am not too interested in a "workaround" I just want a damn product that works. Period.

Can anybody else comment on how their Cyber Syncs work with the 580exii?

Or should I just suck it up and get the Pocket Wizards?

I sounds like it is a cord/connector issue. How is spending more money for PW going to fix that? You are still dealing with the same connector on the 580. I am using the shoe adapter from Flash Zebra that is mentioned above and have had no problems. With this adapter is does not matter what flash I put on it. Connector or not. I have read where others are going to the screwlock PC connectors with good results. The PC connector is one of the worst designs ever.
The only thing going to get "sucked up" by going with PW is more of your cash!

Sheri - I had to go into the custom functions and disable the auto power down or my 580 would go to sleep every few minutes. I had to turn the 580 on and off to wake it back up. The custom function fixed that. No sure if that is what you are seeing but thought I would mention it.

I've never had a problem firing my 580exII with the Cybersyncs and always use the included PC cord.

I use the above linked hotshoe adapter to fire my 430ex and haven't had a problem with that either.

Are you using the same cord to fire your Sony flash?

The only time I've had my CSRB's not trigger a flash is when the flash auto powered off on me. Other than that, they have a pretty much 100% success rate for me.

Though I do not have a suggestion in terms of which triggers are for you, I would strongly suggest you do a search on this form regarding all wireless triggers; even the PW. Yes, there are [recent] complaints about the older version PW (Max, Multi Max, Plus II). And I'm sure you've read about the Flex and Mini. Many of these complaints involve the 580EXII. In other words, stick with what you in mind and see what happens. Work out the problems on your end. There could be issues with the location one is shooting in, connections, and any number of other issues that one should investigate FIRST.

I have shot my 580EXII's with the regular pc cord with my CSRB's and have had zero misfires. They have been completely reliable for me so far.
