p.2 #1 · Even if you can't read Chinese,

Actually it's supposed to be translated as "invincible rabbit'. The "head" part is actually a screwed up translation of "lens".

Peut-ętre...
I'd like to meet this Invincible Rabbit Head, aka PetKal.

Good show, Jess, for an American, that is.......you can write Russian and in the Cyrillic too. As far as my grandma and parents are concerned, they are in a better place now.

Correction.

I just realised the "invincible rabbit" is supposed to be the slang/nickname for 5D Mark II.

So effectively Google translated "lens for 5D Mark II" as "invincible rabbit head".

It basically says "Let's count which lens you have put on your Invincible Rabbit. Hopefully you can all tell me which lens you have you used, and we discuss them for later reference."

My wife was laughing pretty hard when she got to the Rabbit part. She said "I don't understand, this is meaningless."

I asked her if she knew any reason why they would use that term for a camera and she had no idea, but she isn't a camera buff either. Looks like slang.

5D2 - five di tu (in English pronunciation)

5 - wu (in Chinese pronunciation)

Substitute the Chinese "5" in the English pronunciation - wu di tu.

Literally "rabbit without enemy" (or rabbit without equal), which is also pronounced as "wu di tu", can be interpreted as "invincible rabbit".

Initially I thought the question is about what lens to get for "invincible rabbit", which I assumed is a person, the more I read it just doesn't sound too right and this "invincible rabbit" never posts at. When I realised what it means I felt so dumb , but at the same time glad that I could decipher it.

Interesting how they used the sound for 5 (wu), but not for 2 (ar). Or perhaps wu di ar hao or wu di lian si.

"Invincible rabbit" confuses you ? At the same time the expression "dog's bollocks" sounds perfectly logical and it doesn't confuse you ?

In CHINA or even in Taiwan when people saying 5D2 in Mandarin ,the sound like saying in chinese word " wu di tiao = 無敵兔 " very close speak to " Invincible Rabbit " and "Head" here mean LENS .

But all only about in Mandarin's ,In HK we use catonese so, no any Invincible Rabbit in catonese's world.

, indeed 5DII rhymes with "Invincible Rabbit" and head means lens in Chinese. Also, FYI 1Ds II is nicknamed as 'Big Rabbit' while we are at this 'Rabbit' business.

Invincible rabbit is pretty slick nickname! Love it.

Also to my surprise to see many general publics in China can afford high end glasses given the income difference btw US and China.

Actually, there are quite a few affluent consumers who can afford high end photo gears. Last time I went back, I was quite surprised to see some folks carrying 5D IIs, 1D III or 1Ds III and big white super teles. In chinese these people are literally called 'High Fever enthusiasts', equivalent to 'Gear heads' like people who frequent this forum here.

Even if only 0.01% of the Chinese population can afford high end gears, that is still 100,000 people! Canon would be really happy if each of them would just buy one piece of the cheapest L out there.
