p.2 #1 · Brian and Crystal :: Ice Rink E-Session

yes... I was skating and shooting... my wife was shooting from the side of the ice. She was too chicken to put skates on... hahaha.. but actually it worked perfectly because i just skated over to her each time i wanted a lens change.

That ring shot is pretty sick. Great job.

Oh yeah I never did talk about the photos- well done, the fog in the rink is interesting. I'm curious what you did PP-wise to get the ring so crispy sharp. I seem to be able only to blow out the ring, or make it look really scratched up and dirty...

Andrew... I can't exactly tell you because I don't think its anyone item. I do tell my brides to clean their ring before the e-session... it is part of the attire suggestions I make. I think it also helps to have good even lighting. In this instance, the fact that the white boot takes up much of the background of the shot that it helps to preserve the details in the ring. If it was a vary dark background, it would be difficult to get those details and still preserve the ring details. in terms of PP, I can't entirely answer that.. because my wife does most (if not all) of our PP... she has a very good eye for it and enjoys it. In the case of ring shots.. i'd say a careful eye on the exposure, blacks, clarity etc.. will pay dividends.

What a great set, Richard. I love 5 and 6-and what a cool chance to shoot in the empty rink. Really nice job!

Great set Richard. I also agree with others and love 5 and 6, but also 13. Only one I wasn't a big fan of is 4 since she almost has a double chin in that shot. Other than that, looks great bud.

This is a great set, but what I really want to see is the video footage of you walking onto the ice in your tennis shoes and slipping around like a fool. You could have been wearing skates and doing pretty little spins, of course, and that would probably be just as entertaining.

Kurtis.. I was wearing skates.... and got along just fine, minus the pretty little spins. You'll have to stick to your tivo'd figure skating if you want to watch pretty little spins... gotcha... zing!

This might be my favourite e-session to date. as a former hockey player I appreciate the ice...

I just wanna know when this engagement gift thing got started? I spent a fortune on my wife's engagement ring (think 1d territory...) I would be lying if I even hinted that I got nothing in "return".

The groom is friendly with the owners and operators of the rink and he asked.. They had a hockey game on the ice just before us, so when the game ended, they cut the ice and we headed out. We had it for about an hour.

I love the natuaral emotion you caught in #4 Well done!

I gotta say though the outfits in the park shots really threw me off for some reason~ he's all dressed for a fall day, in a sweather and pants and she is dressed for more of a warm summery day... I love the shot with all the leaves in B&W but it doesn't say fall day to me because of what she is wearing. Does that make any sense, or am I just being weird?

I can see your point regarding the clothing.. I actually thought they may have been a little too dressy.. I was envisioning a more "casual day in the park" vibe.

wow! Richard, thanks for sharing the info about the fact that you did have skates on. I have done photo shoots in skating rinks before, but I did not wear skates while shooting. If I am actually at a rink just skating (not shooting) then I will shoot just with a p&s camera when I have a reason to take any pics.

I guess it was a little different since no one else was on the ice, eliminating some of the falling or dropping equipment hazards.

I love the leaf shot, that is the most unique shot I've seen here. Very emotional.
