Death of the "Pingol Method"?
If it's good enough for Ed, I imagine it's a damn good product. I went with the Dual R-Straps. Used them at a few events so far and like them a lot. Saw the Spider at an expo, but they were new there wasn't much feedback on them at the time.

I have one and have used it for a month, not for a wedding yet. I like it, better than setting my camera on the ground every time I want to adjust a light or need two hands to pick something up. I think it will be great for a wedding, can keep my camera at my side when I get in the food line to eat.

I have tried the cotton carrier and it has a fatal flaw as well does the spider holster. We take for granted that with straps we can maneuver the camera around our body to the front or back for weaving in and out of tight places such a wedding.
The cotton carrier works as advertised but you cannot move around in tight places with 2 cameras. The spider would be perfect if you could easily slide the entire holster from the front of your body to back, etc. Another downside to either system as well as the R-strap is you have single point of failure. With a simple strap you have two, if one side of the strap breaks, chances are you can catch it before it hits the ground.

I have no problem maneuvering through crowds with two bodies and flashes attached. Then again, I have always been slim, stealthy and ninja-like.

If you use two bodies, one on a Spider Holster and the other on a R-Strap is a very satisfying setup for many people. I really like one on my Spider Holster and one on a regular strap (1" Domke Gripper w/ swivel).

squat down and have it pop out by mistake? Maybe, maybe not, even if it does have a release switch.
I don't have one, but if you watch the videos on the site you see that the camera has to be rotated 90 degrees for it to be able to come out. Squatting shouldn't be a problem. Even if you have a long lens on there and it catches on your leg as you squat, you would have to be doing some major deep squatting to push it all the way to 90 degrees. Even still, the site shows that there are back-up tethers available so that in the unlikely event of a user error or mechanical failure, you're still good.

I used the Spider yesterday at a wedding and it was great!! very nice and easy to use. really really quick yo. But, in tight places it bumps walls, tables, chairs,... the hair stylist's butt which everyone got a good laugh at lol, but after that I simply turned it around to the front or held it in my hand while squeezing through tighter spaces. It would still bump things if it were on the shoulder, so no contest there. still highly recommend.

Question: Can you attach a handstrap like the Canon CPE4 directly to the Spider camera attachment for a 5D MkII without a grip (donīt like the extra weight or bulk)?
Would the strap reach and could it be threaded through a hole in the Spider?

Was chatting with another shooter at a club event. She had the R-strap. She pulled up her camera to show me a pic she took. As it came up to shoulder level, the tripod connector just disconnected and separated from the body. YIKES!!!! Turns out it was unscrewing itself slowly the whole night. If she didn't pull it up to show me the pic, her setup would have crashed to the floor within seconds. That's why I'm a little hesitant on anything that relies on the tripod threads, you gotta keep on checking or come up with a semi-permanent (i.e. loctite) method to make sure it doesn't unscrew itself without you knowing.

btw: diy, lol
Edit: I used Manfrotto tripod quick release plates for a short while - but I had TWO D-rings disconnect from the bolt within a couple of minutes. Don't use 'em anymore.
