p.1 #1 · D3 battery compatibility question

Has anyone tried any of the numerous brands of aftermarket batteries in their D3? They are so cheap on ebay compared to OEM, I was wondering if they are compatible or is the battery meter non-funtional or? Has anyone tried one?

i have 3 aftermarket batteries that i bought from ebay. Work the same as the authentic one. Battery meter works the same.

I use this one:

I just checked the link, the seller says it will not work with D3. It's clearly stated in the ad. Can anyone recommend one that will?

Why buy an aftermarket battery which can cause malfunction when you already invested in an expensive D3??

When the battery leaks or gives problem you will regret the purchase...

more annoying and more likely than leaking is simply lousy useful life. i had one that worked fine for about a year and then refused to take a charge after that. a year, of course, is the warrantee period.

Strange. I use it EVERY weekend to shot wedding and few days per week for outdoor location shot and never have any problem for the last 2 1/2 years.(D2xs/D2x/D3) The cost of one nikon = 4 aftermarket.

There is NO single incident that aftermarket battery cause damage to your camera yet. But again, whatever it floats your boat.

I probably should just buy a new one from Amazon instead of cheaping out . Free shipping etc etc. Agree with Bubble though, no battery is going to ruin your camera. Lithium's don't leak, in fact I would be amazed if the cells in the OEM one are not from China as well but possibly of inferior quality.

My Nikon D3 battery is 20 months old. It just moved to "1" on the recharge scale. Even if it died today (it won't), that's a little over 5 bucks per month I've paid to have the certainty of an OEM battery. Sure, maybe with an aftermarket battery it would have been 2 bucks per month. I'm sticking with OEM. For the same reason I put a quarter in the parking meter instead of a nickel, even though I am sure I will only be in the store for 5 minutes.

D3? man, don't fuss with after market batts. I'd get a used ENEL4 from keh or adorama before going with an after market battery. Do they guarantee it WON'T fry your D3? Probably not...

Sterlingtek and Battery Barn are often spoken of very highly on these boards.
