p.1 #1 · A recommended exhibit / The Provoke Era | |
Dropped by yesterday at SFMOMA with the intent of seeing the post-war
Japanese photography exhibit being that I am a fan of Daido Morayama,
Araki, Eikoh Hosoe amongst many others. Here:

It was a real pleasure to see many of the original prints I had for so long
admired. I was also surprised at the intensity of the light and the choices
made when enlarging the silver prints. Really interesting stuff.
PS. Note for Bob and AuntiPode -> you should see the wire fest on these
images from post-war Japan. It puts mine to shame.

I had seen the Avedon exhibit which is still there. I think that the idea of
shooting mainly portraits against a white/neutral background is such a
phenomenal idea. Beautiful and controlled. Here:

The unexpected treat was the Chinese and Korean photographers exhibit
and in particular the Chinese. WOW!!! I was blown away by the performance
and photographic work of Zhang Huang.

I highly recommend viewing these exhibits if you are in San Francisco.
