I can't tell you about the Canon because I've never shot with it. According to the reviews it will probably show a lot more nasty.
I can tell you that the APO Lanthar has the best CA correction of any lens I've ever used.
There might be some select few photagraphic lenses which are better corrected (fully symmetrical large format/enlarger lenses) but the CV is really really good.
It is impeccable on the focus plane anyway: http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/4235/img2318crop.jpg

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the Lanthar isn't CA-free. Just very very well corrected. Torture it enough and it will show you the nasties.
Wide open, fully blown background and far oof:
I really ought to prepend "virtually", by default, when I make that statement.
How does the lanthar 125 compare to the canon 90 TS-E with extension tube? Now that the lanthar has been discontinued, the price is getting up there with the TS-E.
I have not used the two lenses featured in this debate. I have used the 90 TS-E. Great lens. The TS-E function puts it over the top of both the Lanthar and the 100v2 in my book.
I also use the EF 100/2 with the Canon extension tube all the time and it works great for many macro or closing focusing needs.

I think the option of taking CA-free photos is more practical than AF or IS combined. Hands down.
O.K. I guess we'll have to agree that we don't agree. But please indulge my curiosity: Why does something that is so easily correctable in PP bothers you so much?
O.K. I give up. I just wonder how many would consider the Canon as the more practical lens and how many would consider the Lanthar as the more practical one.
