p.1 #1 · Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Photoshop cs4

I just got a laptop with windows 7 ultimate x64 installed and i downloaded the trial of Photoshop of cs4 to test on this machine. Im getting 2 errors when i try to install it. Adobe's support is a joke so im wondering if anybody here has had any luck getting this to install properly. It gets maybe 10% of the way through the install and the it errors and says Photoshop cs4 was not able to be installed. Gives me an error 1610 and 1612.

Any thoughts? I also tried installing lightroom 2 and that worked flawlessly.

I have it installed on my desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium. No problems with the installation, but I installed from disc, not from download.

Have you tried the download with only your browser open? Could your anti-virus program and/or firewall be causing the errors? If so, you can temporarily disable them.

Well i have tried it with the anti-virus/firewall disabled. It seems to more of a problem with the installer than the other things running. Not sure. Ive been searching the interwebz all day trying to get this to work.

Im wanting to try this out before i buy the full version. I was going to use the trial for a week or so to make sure its not buggy.

Many people have been using CS4 on the various pre-release versions of Win 7 that have been out for many months. I haven't heard of any problems. Don't forget that Win 7 is based on Vista and that hasn't been problematic for CS4 either. I've been using it since CS4 was first released about a year ago; no issues.

Download the installer from Adobe again, thats the problem. Its happened to others before. Win 7 is not the problem.

When you download the installer, are you saving it to your laptop? (if so, where?) I always suggest "Save" instead of "Run" when downloading installers. The error codes you are getting are MSI installer codes indicating that there is something hosed with the files.

ERROR_INSTALL_SOURCE_ABSENT 1612
ERROR_BAD_CONFIGURATION 1610

Looking at the download site it seems like you need 2 files to do the install. A .exe and a compressed .7z. Make sure you have both to those suckers and that they are in the same location.

yup im saving to my desktop. I have both of the files as well. I extract the files to C:/adobe so they are in the root directory.

I haven't actually went through the install process but do you need to extract? I'm not sure if that is just part of the process when you double click on the .exe on your desktop or not.

Yeah when you double click the exe file from the 2 that get downloaded it extracts the files to a location that you can select.

Turn off UAC.

In the search panel on the Start Menu, type Change User Account Control Settings.

Pull the slider down to Never Notify and then try the installation. Right click on the installer and select Run as Administrator. See if it gets any further.

I second MX727's suggestion, I had all sorts of Issues with PS CS3 + CS4 before I turned of UAC running Vista. I'm about to try "7".

FYI, I've gone the upgraded route by downloading PS since CS2 and have had problems in the past if I don't install each version then installing the upgrade. Next time around I'll purchase the disc so I don't have anymore weirdness (I hope)

Cheers Gaz

OK so this is going to sound dumb but its installed and working. When it would error and tell me that things weren't being installed i missed the button to continue...well i hit that a few times and it went through the install and worked. So i have Photoshop cs4 running on my Windows 7 ultimate x64 machine and it is lightning fast.

I recently purchased the Professional x64 version and had no issues installing CS4 from one of my backup drives (where I downloaded it 3 months ago.) It seems much quicker on Windows 7 than Vista for sure.
