I just got my new toy!! I decided to have a little fun with it in the leaves. I've never done anything with cars before, and it brings in alot of new things to consider. Here is one to start with, I've got more I'll try to fix soon. What do you all think? Any tips / pointers? Thanks!

Did you desaturate the leaves in the foreground? Because their reflection on the car is much more orange. You make the car look imposing and powerful, but it's a little unsatisfying; maybe more grille or the Chevy badge would make it feel more balanced.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was trying not to get the front plate in there and didn't notice I was cutting out the badge. I desaturated everything except the car.

Ok shots... I don't really like the desaturated leaves... If you had left them alone they may have matched the orange reflector (turn indicator?) better.

What do you think of the car?

I'd like to see more shots of it. definitely the full car though.

1) looks like you were in a tight space and didn't have room to get the whole car into the frame. I think it would be much better with the entire car, also if you notice the very edge of the wheel gets cut off in the fender well. Also, the completely desaturated leaves throw it off for me because of the orange reflection in the car.

2)I like this half shot of the front end but it looks angled to me. I would prefer it straight on. I also find the tire and warning sign distracting.

3) I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be looking at it. It doesn't do a lot for me.

I like the editing though (mostly), and the shots are really clean.

Thanks for the comments. I added the one before I desaturated the leaves. I thought it really made the car stand out. I also added another full body shot. Any other suggestions? Any technical suggestions? I shot this with a Rebel XT and the 18-55 lens Some w/ the polarizer and some w/o. Thanks for the comments.

Nice shots. I like your idea with the leaves, but it didn't work. The real leaves look better.

The tailights just doesn't seem like quite the right crop.

My favorite is the side view with the old building with lots of texture. Great shapes and colors. My only nit on that one is I think the tires should be straight on side views. They can be turned on 3/4 views though.

I once read in a Road and Track article on car photography that you should shoot cars on surfaces they would actually drive on (e.g., roads, dirt roads, cobblestone, driveways, parking areas) and keep them off grass, leaves, etc.

I'm jealous of your beautiful V-8 Camaro.

Thanks for the tips. I realized after I was reviewing all the pix that my wheels seemed to be turned the wrong way in most every one. I'll have to keep better track of that next time. Thanks for the tips! I'll keep working on it.

Get a couple of mags at the grocery store - Super Chevy or Hot Rod and whatever else you find there. Even better yet, thumb through them and look at some of those photos. Ideas abound... It's a bad lookin' mofo. Are you having fun?

I would have not let them install that front plate. I live in IL which requires it, but no way in heck I'm drilling holes in my front bumper. I don't even have the bracket for it.

Thanks, sorry was out a few days. As to the plate, the dealer slapped it on before I had the chance to say anything. I'll have to check out a few auto mags and see what they got. Thanks for the tips!

Oh and YES I am having fun it it! It is a blast to drive!

I'm salivating over the car too much to critique the photos! I would love to see those sleek lines in some evening light or neon reflections!
