I wanted to let you know that I found out this week that I got a new job (with the same government agency) that will allow my family and I to move from Atlanta, GA to Denver, CO. Life has instantly become hectic as we work to get the house ready to sell and stuff packed away.
I probably won't have much time for photography in the next few months, but look out next year as we explore the Rocky Mountains!
Take care,
David - an Atlanta (soon to be Colorado) Nikonian
Looks like I'll get to learn how to drive on snow! I've spent most of my time in the SE US, so driving on snow here involves driving on ice, and that is to be avoided at all costs.
I'm not sure what your feelings are on Atlanta, but I think you'll find Denver a better place to be. I would be trilled with such a transfer, I hope you have a great time there!
We have lived in Atlanta for almost 19 years, and while here the population has doubled to almost 6 million and commuting has become a pain due to the high volumes of traffic. We have been blessed with a fantastic church where we have been very involved, great friends and a wonderful job, but have been looking for the right opportunity which would allow us to relocate. We have been choosy as to where we might move, and are quite pleased to have gotten this job in Denver.
So - I am shooting my last Atlanta wedding this afternoon (Halloween themed!) and then most all of my efforts will go into finishing home projects so we can get the house sold.
welcome to Colorado! you will find there is plenty to shoot here. Ohh, and today it was 60 degree's. Supposed to that way for the next week or so. All that snow gone! As you will soon find out with Colorado weather, if you don't like it, wait an hour.
Four feet in October is unlikely. There's been more this year than any that I remember, and it's only been about three. Coincidentally, this was the only week that I ever needed to get somewhere, but my flight out was only delayed an hour.

I'm not sure some people realize how much four feet of snow is. This is after only about 10-11 inches of snow (and the pathways had been cleared about 8 hours prior to this shot)
Took me a while, but I think I remember this spot. Is it by DCB and Margery Reed?
You'll probably need a set of chains, too, for higher elevations. Congratulations on the job transfer, I'm envious of the shots you'll be getting (and hopefully sharing!)
Yep - I had that discussion with a friend earlier today. However, I grew up in TN and have lived in GA for the past 19 years and wouldn't begin to know what to do with a set of chains...
but I imagine that I'll learn!

Hopefully the Goodyears on the Toyota FJ Cruiser will suffice!

The best snow driving experience I've had was a set of siped BF Goodrich AT/TA KOs on my '85 FJ60 that combination would go anywhere. Second best is my current 9-3 with snow tires, which make a huge difference over all season tires.
