Trying to convince myself to pick up a sigma 12-24mm for $400 with a tad bit of peeling. DX, FX just show them to me! (and if there's a thread on this well sorry)

Cheers

Here you go, a blast from the past as I now use the 14-24mm, but here's a sigma

This thread is making me want the 14-24mm instead. Oh well keep em coming!

The sigma's got so many issues from what i've read. Making me a little hesitant about this copy. But i've seen raymonds decent 12-24.

I was thinking of the 10-20 too, specially cause of how close it can get. Doesn't seem to have as many possible issues from what I've read. Lovely shots there rubberband!

My pictures are on a different HD so I'll post some later, but you could also check out the Tokina 11-16 if you are simply looking DX.

For DX you need 12mm if you like wide. Hard to choose which one to post of the many shots I have with the Nikkor 12-24 on my D200. But here is one of my favorites (Autumn View over the Gruyeres Chateau Garden, Switzerland):

Really punchy and sweet shots there guys!
I'm not sure about the 12-24 sigma because that copy i might pick up seems rather soft. I got the seller to send me a coupla more shots. They weren't sharp so I assumed it might be due to camera shake but it turns out he used a tripod. I'd rather pay $850 for a brand new copy, or something else.

If i wanted a lens which could be used more or less wide open the only 2 options i might have are the tokina 11-16 and the 14-24 yeah? Because my widest lens of now is a 35mm anything wider than 35 is fine by me. I'm not the biggest wideangle fan that's why i'm resisting the 14-24mm now. I don't have a tripod either so i might pick one up at the same time but I shoot more hand held. The only reason why I don't want to go for the tokina is because it's not FX capable, but that just leaves me with the 2 options of the sigma and 14-24.

Ultrawide is my favorite way to go, and I ended up with a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8. This is a superb lens, and if Nikon made it you can bet it would cost $1,800 like all their others! It has low distortion, is very sharp, and as a low light/no light photographer it's about the only thing out there that will do what it does. BTW: Tim & Bruce, you guys understand how to use light! Gugs--Cathedral shot is stunning!

Note how straight the lines are! Chicago Subway, Tokina 11-16mm.

Got this shot today. Not the greatest but just think, there was supposed to be a soccer game going on at the time I took this shot, game was postponed until tomorrow, I'll see how it is tomorrow. This was not shot with a sigma but it is at 24mm just to show what you can get with 24mm. I shot this with the Nikkor 24-70

I had a lot of fun with my Sigma 10-20 on my old D80, as you can see from a lot of other pictures, it is a great lens for a very fair price. I hope I don't get my head cut off in here for posting some HDR shots!

I'm now considering the tokina 11-16mm, sigma 10-20mm and of course back to the 12-24mm siggy. I'd love to see more shots and see what i've been missing out on! That's if you've got some time to spare posting them shots up

Thanks for posting all the shots so far. They're really making my decision to pick which lens i should get pretty difficult. If you use the sigmas hand held, and the tokina do you stop down a lot?

Here are 2 more, both at 10mm on my D80. I usually shot the 10-20 around f/7-11. The type of shots I used it for most were architecture and landscapes, so I didn't really find much use for larger apertures. In fact, I have the Nikon 14-24/2.8 now and I have yet to really open up the aperture during the few months that I have had it.
