Jack, as you know I always enjoy your "trainumentaries"... and this one was especially interesting for me. Good to see that trains are still running, and apparently loaded up full. Gotta be a good sign for the economy. As always, terrific captures, and just as enjoyable commentary.
Jack,
Tha documentary is amazing. For someone who lives elsewhere in the world, You have no idea of the extent of the statement your photos make
For anyone who doesnt believe that the USA will rise again to its pre eminent position within the world as the economic power you only have to see the strength of your countries infrastucture as you show here in your post and its amazing wealth in agriculture, minerals, manufacturing and finance.
Where did the economy wrong? Wall St. When the financial sector which provides a mere 3% to your national GDP is accounting for over 30% of corporate profits, (US Treasury Statistics; yr ended 2006) then you have serious imbalances and when those financiers get it wrong in their insane greed, then we all know what happens.
Go America

very interesting post. You know I love train pictures, but this documentary is really among the best if not the best you have posted. And the small 50mm rocks! you don't seem to need any other lens

Thank you Tim, really appreciate your thoughts. Yes, we have some serious crap to deal with here in the US, but thanks so much for your kind words regarding the USA. I'm tickled you enjoyed the documentary

Jack,
Thank you for sharing your photos/knowledge and taking the time to write the commentary. I always enjoy your train photos, but this post is one of the best.
I've also learned a lot about trains this morning.
i really enjoyed all of these images Jack, you have really gotten so good at this stuff and your passion and understanding on this subject is really paying off big time man
nice series! everytime i look at your images reminds me to try shoot some trains myself. I travel by train a lot, but for some reason i never tried to actually capture them, let alone how you do it...

Thanks Raymond! It just may be that you don't like to shoot trains However, if you do give it a try, I'd love to see 'em!
In one of your Container Train pics I realised how many trucks it would take to move the same amount of containers. (At least 60 - the end of the train wasn't in frame so it could have been more.)
60 less trucks doing distance is a big thumbs up. The train is more efficient fuel wise.
