At least there are no problems with AF performance!
Yet...

Actually there are - and some are clearly real.

Even so, it's gonna happen.

The fact that the vast majority of users who have expressed an opinion about the AF have been gushing with praise for it, suggests that whatever is going on with the odd "iffy" body, it's rare and not systemic.

Yep... Mine went back due to serious AF issues. Waiting on replacement (week 2 and still waiting...) I am almost positive I just got a lemon body.... Shooting side by side with my 1d3 at a couple of NHL games sealed the deal for me on returning it. Fingers crossed for a new defect free body in the mail and SOON.

I didn't have any of those problems that the OP mentioned (have my 7D for 2 weeks now), but I do notice that sound recorded from the on-camera mic during video taking does have a kind of 'rolling shutter' background sound. It's like a faint clicking sound when you watch old reels of film. (maybe it's just normal)

Anyone else have this issue?

I think you are really a minority here stating that 7D has serious issues. There are couple of well known FM members that found 7D well focusing and have sold their 1DIII cameras. Please note that I'm not saying that 7D is better than 1D, but many people find 7D AF good enough reason to do not keep more expensive camera...

Are you using an IS lens and is the IS on when you notice this?

Thankfully my 7D doesn't suffer from any of these issues. I do however fully understand the apprehension felt by those who are still uncertain about purchasing a new camera with concerns having been raised. I remember the vertical grip issue that plagued the 20D when it came out and the banding that occured when using the built-in flash. I had vertical grip problems with my 20D and had to return the first and order a new one. When I bought my 7D I was nervous about the possibilities of issues but felt that it was worth a try; I figured Canon would be more on top of things after the 1dIII issues. I can't say that I'm surprised that there are some experiences of problematic examples of the 7D; it's a pretty complex camera with some very significant new systems in it. I hope those of you who are having problems will be able to either find solutions or a better example of the camera.

Well, he's saying that his 7D has serious problems - and freely allows that his is probably just a "lemon body".

Fortunately, I said MY 7D had serious issues.

To quote my favorite movie (This is Spinal Tap): "There is a fine line between cleaver and stupid."

You got me there...it does suffer from that one, although that one is technically not an 'issue' since it's a behavior specified in the manual. I do wish they would change it though.

What about the maze like noise artifacts/unbalanced green chanels?

Is this a firmware issue, or a raw conversion issue?

I stand corrected.

Lucky for you that you returned that lemon, bad for Canon community - we will never know what was wrong with that camera

After reading user reports on 7D issues, I compiled the following list. The issues are not fixed by 1.0.9 firmware.

4. ? - green channel differences causing issues, at the very least for now:

Evidence is so far inconclusive IMO.

Can you tell me a bit about these unbalanced green channels?

What is it about? And how can you tell if a particular cam is unbalanced or not?

Major problems? Minor problems? I don't know. I prefer to wait several months. Hey, my 40D is still working fine.

Never will I be an early adopter.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.
