p.1 #1 · Adobe no from PC to mac

I just got off the phone with Adobe support. They will not allow me to switch a PC to a Mac without purchasing a full price CS version. I use CS3. THey told me they are sorry for the "inconvenience". This is just ridiculous. I can download the windows version for nothing.

Call Adobe sales, not customer support. They will allow you to upgrade to CS4 at the upgrade price and will do a platform change. You must sign and agree to destroy your Windows version. The second link is a .pdf file of the destruction letter.

Thanks for you response, Jim. It just seems to me that companies start out concerned about customers, and then when they get big, they no longer care. Canon releases a camera that has problems focusing, windows vista, adobe gigs us for another $200. To make matters worse I was on hold with Adobe for well over an hour.

Thanks again Jim. Now I need to decide if I want to go back to a PC.

Hi there
I know this is a camera Forum not a PC one -- and I agree with your post - Corporate Greed just knows no bounds - just look at the Banks getting up to their old tricks again - and I'm not normally regarded as any sort of "Leftie".

With the new Windows 7 you might like to re-consider the move to a MAC. The W7 64 bit version runs photoshop really fast (others will testify) and the OS is FAST, STABLE,polished and slick -- much much better than VISTA and you can upgrade for peanuts.

In any case new powerful PC's can be had for a fraction of the price of Apple gear.

Don't expect the Mac fanboys to agree but with Windows 7 switching to a MAC is another whole ball game.

If you are a windows user I'd say try Windows 7 before switching -- you'll be glad you did.

Cheers
-K

It really is pretty simple to do a license exchange with Adobe. When I moved from Windows to Mac the process took about 4-5 weeks from start to finish and all it cost me was the shipping of the new boxed versions of CS4, LR and DW.

The only thing you need to be aware of, or at least this is what I was told, that you can only do this 'switch' once during your 'Adobe Life'. So it's well worth considering that.

Kyle,
Windows 7 is a good don't get me wrong, but it sounds like he's already bought a Mac. As for PC's being had for a fraction of Apple gear, try pricing component for component when buying a PC related to a Mac and you'll soon realize that you're dead wrong.
Anyways, like others have said, Call Adobe sales and they should be able to take care of you. I know when I switched years back it wasn't a hassle at all.

Kyle, I have been reading all the positive things about 7, and have to agree with you. My biggest problem has been hardware not OS. I have liked XP. I know a lot of the hardware is the same, but I loose a computer about every two years. It will be my luck you are right. I'm not much of a brand person, though.

Alistar I spent most of the day yesterday on the phone with adobe. The only option they gave me was $199 upgrade. So they have mailed it to me. I am waiting on the trial version to download in the mean time.

I always thought adobe and mac went hand and hand. Anyway adobe will need to come up with something spectacular for me to upgrade again.
