p.1 #1 · b/w portraits

Hey folks -- I posted a couple of these senior photos from this past weekend in a thread in the People Forum, but was curious what you b/w gurus would think about them. I struggle with selecting the degree of contrast that looks best when converting to b/w. I obviously don't go for grain enhancement, but maybe I should?

Any comments or suggestions on improving my use of b/w on portraits would be appreciated!

I remember these from the People Forum, Ed.
I must say, I like the conversions much better.
So many different ways of making a b/w conversion, but they look nice in my opinion. Nice to me means there is a good tonal range and contrast. They don't have a flat look to them. There is nice separation of darks and lights. Some may take issue with hilights in them, however. Especially #3 on her blouse.
My only crit would be that I don't care for the vignette on 2 and 3.

Thanks Tim - yeah, the vignettes are a little heavy. I was trying to add some drama to the photos but maybe took it a bit far. Also, the blouse was not blown in the original photo, but it sure got hot when I converted to b/w.

I really don't have a lot of experience or skill with my b/w conversions, so I thought it would be interesting to see what people that really spend time working on that would think of these. I hope others chime in as well.
