So I guess you just ignore the improved AF, ISO, and other features then?
Given the improvements in IQ shown by the 5D II and 7D, I think this camera has the potential to be suhweeeet.
It is worth what it is worth for your personal purposes. The AF is nice but the 1D3 once fixed is not a slacker. Increased IQ maybe, maybe not. Increased ISO we will have to see if it is real or marketing hype. The video is a throw in as proved by the pricing on the 5D2. A $1000 is a big step for what I am looking at personally. If it works for you fine.
At this price, it will have limited appeal now that the 1DMkIII AF has been corrected. You can pick one up for around $2800 and then add a 7D or 5DMkII if you want video.
I'd say that the 7D and 1D IV are probably equal when it comes to video, and that it's production, direction, acting and budget that make the difference.
Canon's new AF system, and how it works out will be what makes this new body.
WFT Server mode allows for remote viewing of the camera's Live View feed,
adjusting of shutter speed, aperture, ISO and various other camera settings, as well as firing the shutter,
all from the web browser of a linked computer, iPhone or other smartphone.
This Camera's going to be sold out for months and months.....
The Canon EOS-1D Mark IV has an expected street price of US$4999 in the U.S. and is to ship in late December 2009
In Canada, the EOS-1D Mark IV has an expected street price of CDN$5499, with a ship date of late December 2009. There will be CPS pricing in Canada on the EOS-1D Mark IV; if you're a Canadian CPS member, contact your dealer for more information.
CDN$5499 OUCH!!!!!!!
amazing auto focus !! the real revolution is that a Japanese company uses a black guy so show off their flagship camera !!! I guess it's the Obama effect

Canon USA just posted a $4999 price. For me that 6mp increase in sensor isn't worth a grand. The AF is nice but for my purposes the 1D3 works fine. Video isn't worth a dime to me personally.

Don't forget that when the Mark III was announced it was $500.00 cheaper (list price on the Canon web site) than what it sold for when it finally hit the street. If I remember correctly it wasn't the dealers that jacked the price up at the last minute it was Canon.
Looks like a beautiful camera and as much as I'd like to be first in line and will probably own one eventually I promised myself that I would never go through again what we all went through with the Mark III. After one died on me at 4000 clicks and then all the recalls afterwards with the second one I will be waiting for all the rave reviews and new threads here on FM this time around.. after it gets some hands on field testing.
Good Luck to all I hope the new Mark IV lives up to the hype and expectations..

It's all part of the huge price rises we've seen in the last 12 months, It's only $400 more than the 1D III at release, so better than could be expected with the lousy US dollar IMO.
