p.1 #1 · Ideas on making a video out of pictures?

Hey guys.

I hope this is the right forum, or even the right website to be posting in, but maybe somebody will have some ideas about this.

I'll be going to Israel in a couple of weeks. I'd love to make a short video about it. But I want this video to only consist of pictures. Some scenes will be made out of consecutively shot pictures, aka burst-mode; some will be just one picture with tilts, zooms - you get the picture.

(This is on the one hand due to the cool effect just using photos will make, and on the other due to my dslr not supporting video-recording :P)

Now, my question is, has anybody done anything similar to this, and/or maybe has ideas/advice/suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

My good friend Colin did this when he went to Singapore. He made it all out of burst shots, so it in effect becomes a stop motion. The two videos he did are here and here.

I don't have that kind of patience. Man...

One technique that you may wish to employ is used by Ken Burns in his documentaries - he pans across a photograph to give the illusion of motion. I use Sony Vegas Pro, which can import a series of photos, and apply various effects, paths, and transitions, then render out to a "movie" format such as .avi.... The Sony software also allows you to add multiple audio tracks, such as background music, sound effects, and narration.

I have also used Techsmith's Camtasia Studio to do similar work. It's less capable than the Sony product but much less expensive.

Thanks a lot harrygilbert. That was something I was thinking about. Should be pretty fun in the Old City in Jerusalem, pretty much everything there is worth a shot

its about a million times easier to do using time lapsed options on a good video camera, so much easier to edit. but GL sir.

the effect your getting from a camcorder is different that stitching together single frames from a dslr, besides getting much higher quality (that includes nice bokeh).

prove me wrong if i am

Check out Photodex Proshow Gold and Producer. These programs are specifically made to create video slide shows from still photos. You can also do it with most video editing software. I have Adobe Premiere Pro as well as Premiere Elements, and they will both do it. Have fun with this!

You can pick up a small, inexpensive still camera with video (I used a Panasonic TS1 and Casio FH20) and and combine the video with “Ken Burns” effect D3 stills like I did here,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4MW55UbkQI

or use the “Ken Burns” effect only, which I did for a friend who send photos of her dogs,

Here's something else that can be done. Friend of mine documented her two month trip in Utah with her boyfriend .......I organized the shots, set them to music, and wound up with these:

Just drop the images into video editing software like iMovie or final cut on a Mac and set the time for each pic.
Add audio later. Quicktime is great and powerful.

I looked on Google and found this article on technixupdate.com. Downloading and testing is the only way to find if this works for you.

Update: the direct link: sourceforge
