wait, so you are changing from flashpalette? is there a reason why or is it just grown old on you
No, sorry I guess I wasn't totally clear. I'm either going totally re-do my current site (using the same template) or possibly switch to another template as there are some quirky things with the one I choose that I feel shouldn't be there. One of them should be the ability to leave menu panels open instead of having to mouse over them to have them pop up. Half the time you have to mouse away and back again to get it to pop up and while I don't have a problem with it I would assume it frustrating to people that aren't super internet savvy. I have not had one issue with them from the beginning and I upload to my own web space so it's really been perfect.

I had a couple sites with blu - one not so good time, and the others were great - had solid support for a couple issue, and they moved my site from one host to another for free. I still think hosting 3rd party is a better choice though.
Personally, I would get a blu template, selfhost on a higher end ISP (wiredtree, etc), but build most of the site with wordpress using static pages, along with the blog stuff. That gives you great SEO, lots of options for templates, you can update your content from any browser, and you have a really nice flash portfolio to send people to from the blogsite.

I use CMD (creative motion design) for my website. I think it's great, easy to use interface, infinite storage, infinite galleries and text pages, 1500x1000 size pics (if you want), paypal integration and a bunch of other stuff.
Their customer service is great. They are based in Czech Republic so have some weird opening times- they're American people but operate out of Prague cos the owner married a Czech girl and moved his operation over there.
Everything I ask them gets answered within 24 hrs and the changes to the website (favicon uploading, email account creation etc) are handled straight away.
for the $300 I got it for (half-price) and the free hosting, I'm pleasantly surprised! And they list their phone number, unlike Blu Domain where you have to wait in line to be answered via email....Show more →
HUGE +1 I bought one from them and am almost ready to launch. Customer Support is EXTREMELY fast and very helpful both over the phone and e-mail. They are up during a lot of the American times. I can't stress how happy I am with them. Cost is great and SEO is awesome with them, they include an HTML backend and all of the SEO info is done through their backend portal.I'll be hosting with Godaddy once I launch but their hosting isn't bad either. It is extremely easy to do your template with them and their custom design service is fairly cheap and quick.

I have had Photobiz for my site for over a year and they are great! I havent taken the time to work on more of the custom sites but they options are there. customer service is outstanding! I usually get response to emails in less than 2 hours if they are open, if not I will have a answer the next day. The ONLY thing I dont like about them is the pay scale. you get a certian number of images per scale so the more images no matter the size the more the price. So if you are going to use them for hosting as well be prepared to pay for it. I pay $80 a month for 7200 images.

I have read a lot about the different companies. I am tossing up between Photobiz and CreativeDesignMotion. Then I just a read an account of flash websites being invisible to search engines. What's the story with that? Do they all have an HTML version for the search engine?

I know it wasn't part of your list, but I went with portfoliositez(.com) I seem to have gotten the best of both worlds - amazing price point, great looking templates that are dead-simple to customize and awesome cs.

In Australia we are lagging behind in internet speed, I find most flash websites annoyingly slow to load and navigate. I have asked a couple of providers if they can do just HTML site templates for the moment. The flash websites look good but not if I am going to lose customers while they wait for pages to load. Anyone have similar speed problems?

PHOTOBIZ.
The people there are fantastic, wonderful to talk to, and clearly passionate about their business (seriously, I chatted with a sales rep for like an hour just about what they're doing, their business goals, etc...simply because I'm into that stuff and I asked). Not only that, but everything is extremely easy to set up and the sites actually look pretty doggone good. I would recommend them to anyone.

I really wanted to use Photobiz.... until I found out that I could not host my blog with them. They told me I would have to host my blog elsewhere which to me seemed like a bad idea with regards to SEO. With Photobiz you have zero access to FTP or anything to do with your server... so I ended up not going with them. They do have terrific support but they are very limited in the way you can use them.

Love my Bludomain site. From purchase last Friday to launching the site this morning the communication has been great, answers quick, and easy to edit. I reccomend Bludomain!

Depends on what you want to use your web site for. If you just want a site to give out as a portfolio then any will work. If you want to get extra business from people doing keywork search then forget about any flash site. Stick to basic HTML. If you did go flash then you would have to have a large HTML entrance page with lots of content to have a chance of being found. Also go with a independent IP address.
With some of those listed they will include you with several hundred other sites sharing one main address. This is why with at least one of those listed your email from their server is rejected as spam from some major email provider. A independent IP address is about $2.00-$5.00 extra on most host plans.

I had photobiz and they were awesome. easy to set up and update. They can be a little pricey if you need to have a lot of photos on your site. The one bad rap I had with them was their SEO was NG. Think about photoshelter, they have good looking sites and very good SEO. I am know with livebooks, which had been custom design only and very expensive but know offer a cheaper monthly service plan with a blog and they do have great SEO.
