p.1 #1 · Farm House Weddding Photobooth

Ran a photo station not long back - decided to use the back wall of the barn as the backdrop rather than dropping in a white background or something. I'm happy with how it went.

Just wanted to post as a reminder to not be afraid to step out of your 'plan' and use the surroundings.

50 or so more on my photography blog (it's a post or two back) if you care to see more.

I like the background just as it is. I think you made a wise choice.

A bit hot for me, but they really work. I'm impressed at the lack of shadows on the wall! Care to show/describe your lighting? They look pretty close to the wall?

Awesome idea, worked great! A lot of character behind those characters.

I'm doing a farm wedding next August. When I scouted the location with the B&G, I came up with the idea of using the barn for the photobooth setup. They liked the idea so much, we ended up putting it in the contract.

The PP was applied automatically via a pre-created lightroom preset, they literally looked exactly like this (minus watermark) 1 second after capture. (and were in my clients hands as a print 10 seconds afterwards).

I like a bit of a higher gamma / slight over-exposure (without blowing) in my whites... just how I roll. Plus it looks better in the prints made from my onsite printer.

The lighting is a simple umbrella camera left with 3 SB800's (@ 1/8 power, if I remember correctly) in it... I believe I might have been bouncing one of those three off the far wall as well to give a little extra fill. f/9 and ISO 400, iirc.

I, actually, just wrote a 12+ page logistical & equipment How-To article on photographer-based photo booths here, so I won't repeat myself from that too much and bore you all (or violate copyright rules, etc).

I know, right??! So fun, I highly recommend figuring out how to make this work for you and your clients and offering it as an additional service, it rocks the house.

Thanks! - I presume the 3 lights with low power is for a fast re-cycle time?

The very white whites comment I made was just that I probably would'nt go that hot, I did'nt mean it did'nt look good in these shots!

Nice work!

Yeah, 3 at 1/8th power lets me roll all night with zero recycle issues... if I had one flash popping at 1/2 power it'd cook and/or the batteries would die and/or I'd have recycle problems.
