ok, so if the 1D4 comes out this year, that means I may be able to afford a used one sometime in the summer of 2011.

It's probably gonna be an awesome camera but I have to tell ya, I'm head over heals in love with my 1D3. I have been since I got it last November.

The 1Ds3 prices may actually fall so bad that it would be pointless selling it. It's something I always knew, knowing what a luke warm upgrade the 1Ds3 was, and I may keep it as a second to the 1Ds4.

No matter what happens, it's still going to be a great camera, even at $3500 - $4000.

Unless the new one had a reasonable price that is, but we all know that's doubtful especially with the exchange rate.

Looks to me an amazing camera. I think IQ is probably a given, so keep our fingers crossed for the AF system!

Facts are such a refreshing change in these these threads and it's a heck of a lot easier to look something up on a spreadsheet (or whatever) than searching through websites or Canon press releases for this info......

I wonder what it will take for Canon to live down the 1d3. Is the photographer responsible for the IQ anymore, or is it up to the camera to select, focus, expose, and then print an exceptional image while the "user" sends Tweets to his/her twit friends every 60 seconds?

I'm not defending Canon and the debacle that was the 1D3 or anything, but wondering how they can get it right so even the most unskilled twit can get it right and not complain...

Getting 100% out of the camera is getting harder and harder...technique needs to improve or all those pixels will be wasted....

Ok not to just be a rumor-monger,

While I was there, they showed me their internal computer (because I didn't believe them either) and it shows the 1DmkIV and 1DsmkIV, the 1D was priced at $4995 and the 1Ds was priced at $6995 (obviously subject to change)

I'm just going off what I heard and what I saw while I was there. I can't claim any of it to be factual

I wonder though, why would Canon skip PMA this year if they were going to release 2 new pro bodies this month? Also, a new 1D4 might cut into 7D sales so would it be wise to release it so soon after the 7D? I would suspect it/them to be released next spring after the initial surge of 7D sales has settled.

I agree with you Kevin, but I can also see why they would mark it like that, if they go TOO low it will certainly cannibalize 7D sales, already moreso than it's going to once it comes out.

Canon will be at the CES and that will take place even earlier than the PMA. It would be in the last week of January, I believe while PMA in February. Plus, everybody wants to go to Vegas. Who cares about Anaheim

Actually, finding the spreadsheet will almost certainly take me longer than going to DPReview and find the announcement in their nicely chronological table

and $4K and $1.7K is pretty huge!!!!

I know a lot of people who can't even go $2.6K for the 5D2 but can go $1.7K.

Photoplus will be going on in NYC the weekend of the 23rd as well, which happens to fall within the same week of the supposed announcement. Maybe I'll see it there

This is so very true. After a year and a half I am still learning the nuances of tailoring and moving among different af settings for the MkIII for different subjects and situations, when what works for one is not optimal for another.

I'm a spreadsheet kind of guy. It's my simpleminded/lazy approach to following this stuff; everything gets put in one file and I don't have to think about which site to visit.......

Traditionally, Canon has introduced an L lens together with a 1D series body. I wonder which one that would be? I hope they upgrade and improve upon the 24-70. Adding IS is pretty much a given, I just wish they extend the range of that lens towards the longer end somewhat.

Yea, a 24-70 replacement is likely, IMO. So is a 70-200/2.8IS replacement and perhaps a new flash as well. Maybe even a 35II...
