In my humble opinion, all the talk of AF (which is absolutely wonderful) and tracking (again very good) and so on and so on... has really overshadowed just what 18MP can do for wildlife photography. So here are some samples of where the 7D's 18MP really really outshines the 1D's 10MP's lack of ability to crop and save an otherwise unusable image. The ability to crop and still not lose too much detail is simply amazing with this camera. Enjoy!
Nice shots, Conrad This is why I'm banking on a +16mp APS-H 1DIV with increased high ISO performance. The 7D looks like a fantastic piece of kit, no doubt, but you've gotta believe the 1DIV is going to be that much better in both of the said departments...at least one should hope

Oh the 1DIV is going to be that hands down wildlife king for sure M Vers. But for us non-pro budget-strapped guys... the 7D is more than anyone really needs.
Here's a example taken today under cloudy, dank conditions using the 7D at ISO 800. The feather detail of this eastern bluebird is excellent. This is an original JPG straight from the camera, (default settings for sharpness, noise, etc.) cropped to about 25% of the original frame size.
These samples look sharper than most I have seen so far with the 7D. Could you post some 100% crops of these, and give an idea of your workflow? Thanks.

WOW - some seriously bad-a** pictures - sweet job ... and yea, gotta love cropping (with 1.6x no less) and still having a lot of pixels left.
Hehe... hey Alek how have you been? Yes 18MP is just great to have. Hehe.. I've been busy honing my PP skills with some quick tutorials from another FMer (Ant-man) so I thought I'd put it to some good use promoting the 7D for folks who want to see what it can do. Hehe... I think soon I'll return to the N&W forum as I think I've promoted this damn thing enough with no compensation from Canon.

Geeze Alan. Maybe you could resize it to fit my little screen please? I can't look at the whole image without scrolling all over the place.
Beautiful shots, Conrad ! A picture is worth a _ _ !
I do love this camera already, even with the so little time I got to spend on it last evening. The cropping ability, the lightweight body, blazing fps/ deep raw buffer and quick access to settings and AF modes, and oh, the lcd...
I am glad 4 legged animals don't fly (that's what I shoot), this camera is going to get me some shots that I had never imagined before (staying at/under 600mm), long live 18 MP !

Yeah, but this thread is about cropability, and with specs like that the 7D still wins

Conrad, You are indeed selling a lot of 7d's for Canon. You need to be placed in their marketing department!
No kidding. I had no desire what so ever for this camera because I have a 1D3, but after seeing your many pages of samples I now would like to have one. Thanks alot a$$!
BTW your samples are freaking amazing! Thanks for sharing.
I currently shoot with the 1DMKii... with that crop on the first image, I'd be lucky to have anything useable even for a 4x6.
I have to say, my 1DMKII is really starting to show it's age. ISO800 is so much better on these new cams, cropability is superior and I'm probably short a lot of dynamic range and 'adjustability' on exposure.

If I sell my 40d I'd need to plunk down another grand to get the 7d... must resist must resist. i know i will get a 100L Macro IS! But I got a 100 Macro USM already... argh!
