This has happened to mine also, i've took it to Nikon Service today. (09/11/2009)
They said by Friday (13/11/2009) it should be ok, as it will probably "just need cleaning from the inside"

This image is copyrighted by the owner

Have anyone has though that it's could be something else and not a "sealing issue"?

I am thinking that it could be a reaction of the adhesive of the glass to the inside non reflective coating...

I had this problem with my D3x when it was new.
Nikon replaced the camera.

hope you get yours fixed okay.

Mine is still at Nikon. Today they told me that they are looking what approach should the follow... They don't know yet if they have to open it or if the can replace it without. (pull the glass out or whatever)

Have they told you if they had to open the camera, or not?

All good at the end. It was successfully repaired by Nikon Greece (Damkalidis)

The screen cover was replaced without opening the camera within warranty.

However the reason for the foggy, smokey, smeared (or whatever it was) glass remained unknown.

My D3 had the same problem, just not as bad.

Nikon Mellville replaced the screen under warranty repair..

PS my camera was NEVER wet............
