p.1 #1 · Samyang (Vivitar, Bowen, et al) 7mm/8mm f3.5 Fisheye

I just ordered one of these. Has anyone here run one through its paces yet? It looks very interesting. I want to try to figure out how to do quicktime vr panoramas, and this lens seems to be the trick.

For a crop camera, the Peleng might be just as good and cheaper. For FF, the Zenitar.

I'm pretty sure the Samyang/Bower/Polar/(ad infinitum) is for crop only, so be aware of that.

Apparently it uses a different type of projection which makes for much better distortion at the edges of the frame. It's possible to shave the lens hood off using a dremel tool and make it work with FF. In fact, you can shoot a complete 360 degree panorama in just four shots!

I used it on a 1Ds and a 5D. You can unscrew the rear element filter and it will work on FF. It is one of the most underrated lenses and a very well kept secret by those who own one. I sold mine when I left DSLR-land but did love it when I had it.
George.
