You are definitely right about a "tiger". Nice shots of a beautiful specimen.

The naming on this one seems appropriate. I like the tight crop on the last one.

The last shot isn't cropped.

My, what a big tongue he has. I haven't seen one of these before. He really has great camouflage for that terrain.

very nice.. is it dangerous to be that close? I heard rattlesnake bites can be very nasty..

of course, with a telephoto, you could probably stay a good distance away..

Thanks again for the comments!
Rattlesnake bites can be fatal. Tiger rattlesnake venom has a fair amount of neurotoxic properties to it, as well as hemotoxic properties.
Although I do get close at times, I keep a safe distance.
A Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 was used for these, slight crop on the first pic.

Geeze, I get all caught up in work stuff and take a break from the N&W forum and you have to go and post something sensational like this Bill!

Exquisite series, hard to pick a favorite. I really love that pink hue to the background body color on this individual.

I gotta buy a plane ticket and come visit

Thanks Peyton! I havn't logged on in a while...work and stuff too.
He's a southern Az specimen. They tend to be a lot more colorful than their bretheren found in the vicinity of Phoenix.
Pack up the gear and come for a visit!
Cheers, Bill

Reminds me when I used to collect them for zoos. I developed the belief, leave them alone, photograph them but leave them be after a few years of the work. It didn't help getting bit by an Asp viper but my general feeling is that it is great to see them in images and free.

Bill,
What a great series of pictures!
I had always heard about pink rattle snakes, but have never seen such a nice picture.
At 70mm you were rather close.
