It was a blow-out this weekend. 42-0 at half. But the sunset was amazing. I hate night games. Shooting at twilight is fine (cool even). But once it gets dark, no matter what I do, there doesn't seem to be a way to compensate for the high ISO (3200) without getting a 7D (possible) or a Mark III (out of the question). Anyhow, here they are...thanks in advance for your comments, and honest critiques.
Chris: Some nice shots. I'd recommend occasionally turning your camera to portrait orientation so that you don't cut off so many feet in your actions shots.
ISO 3200? I got away with ISO 1250 at a night game at Autzen, and still had shutter speeds of 1/500 sec to 1/800 sec, tho the light does drop way off in the end zones.
Got to say, I don’t care for those new uniforms. The cheerleaders have it right.
The one of Masoli is a good one. Don’t think anyone but us critical photographers would notice the affects of the high ISO in his face.
More portrait orientations, and tighter crops on the subject would be good. I did some searching for your photos last year, and it seems you don’t post your good shots on FM.
Decided to change your name on FM to your real name? I almost missed your post, and did miss you last week if you posted then, as I just scrolled down looking at the poster, and not the subject.
bergs and macro - thanks for looking; as I saw a previous poster write "no cameras were harmed in the taking of these photos."
chungangus - glad you liked that one. Your comment speaks to Russ' comment and brings up what I always find an interesting issue. Landscape to include context like the defenders in the background, or portrait for the "whole body experience." In what I do, my editor has asked for landscape shots as he prefers context over feet. That being said, if I was shooting to sell in general Russ is right on - folks like feet!
Wingspar - isn't it odd? I think I got frustrated as I saw my shutter speeds drop and didn't think enough about what exactly would I settle for. It's a little hard to acknowledge, but even after four years there are times when I act like a total rookie. I think this was one of them. Had I been paying attention closely to shutter speed I probably could have gotten away with 1600 - thing was I didn't want to have dark faces that were not properly exposed. As for cropping tighter, I think I got lazy. Again brutal to admit, but it's the only way to get better, huh? My guess is that in the hurry to get things up after the game I don't do a very good job of being precise. I need to take the time to at least have a second look at the photos I show on FM.
And Russ, it was still a valuable comment. I always appreciate you having a look at what I do.
Chris what metering did you use with your shots? Just curious about the lighting there, I will be shooting the USC game this month and have never shot at Autzen.
Wickedfn4u - I shot in evaluative metering mode, AV and over exposed a titch (can't remember exactly how far). For USC I'm going to go back to keeping my ISO at 1250 and not be so obsessed with shutter speed. You'll love shooting at Autzen - get there plenty early though if you need to transmit at half-time. The photographer's "pit" is just off the field, but gets filled about 90 minutes before a big game. Stay in touch and I'd love to meet you Tom.
rbianco - thanks for the comments. The same students sit in those seats and do crazy "stuff" each home game.

I love that shot of the Sky and the Duck. Other than #2 and #5 which I wish either showed more, or were cropped differently, this is a MUCH BETTER showing than of your UCLA game.
What was different in your mind when choosing what pictures to show? I feel like I'm looking at the work from two different shooters!
