Im really glad im not the only one! I think my brain leans left by about 10-15 degrees, my pictures are horrendously leaning most of the time!
Yup, me too. I concluded some time ago that i must be naturally lopsided. No matter what i do i seem to end up with the same slanting horizon every time.

Interesting. For not too much more (assuming you buy the 7D with grip), you could have a used 1DIII instead (US prices). Sounds like you both feel the 7D isn't giving up too much to the MkIII.
I'm wrestling with the same question, i.e. used MkIII or the 7D. Leaning towards the 7D, although I'd like to see more low-light AI Servo examples of the 7D AF (for ISO3200 & 6400 ice hockey).

Sure, a used 1DIII is tempting but in reality, I'm treating the 7D as a stop gap measure until the 1DMkIV is announced rather than a long term solution. I need something with better high ISO performance than the 1DII and even if the 1DMkIV is announced soon, it will be months before I can get hold of one and I have events this year that I'm already comitted to.
A comparison between the 1DIII & 7D would be useful.

I just bought a 5D Mark II and although it's not a sports camera, I have used it for some sports and it's done quite well. My 7D came in yesterday and I hope to get out and shoot with it this weekend. After playing around with the 7D today, I feel I can sell the Mark III. I agree the 7D's set-up will take some time to get used to.

I can assure you these were shot with my new 7D...lol...I post my event stuff on Smugmug and for some reason the EXIF doesn't come over...any suggestions on how else to make you believe?

I know you haven't had the 7D for very long but would you say that the AF is comparable to the MkIII? (a working one obviously )

Looks really nice I just cant wait for the 1d4 when I see this because thats gonna be a killer camera
I agree. If the 1DMkIV builds on the features & technologies of the 7D (and why wouldn't it?) it's going to blow the competition out of the water. The question is - how long do we have to wait?

I shot HS tennis yesterday with the 7D...overall I'm very impressed with the camera not so much with the operator...I'm still fumbling around with the controls a little, especially as I try to tweak my AF preferences...one thing I've noticed is how much quieter the shutter is compared to my 1 series bodies...It still seems the initial lock seems to be a little slower (very little) but once locked on it's a beauty...but I need to spend more time using it before any final conclusions.

I went back and looked at those 5000 and 6400 shots and I'm impressed. If 3200 looks even better than those, then i think I have what i want but still have to see what the auto focus is like. I need pretty quick AF for pro sports. Thansk for all the info everyone. You've been very helpful.

I saw this post and tonight I happened to shoot volleyball with my 5D II at these exact ISO settings. Of course the gym is different etc etc etc but I thought I would post them anyways. Both shots are with my 70-200 2.8L. I shot Medium fine JPEGs with low noise reduction:

Nice volleyball photos mfoto!
I'll be getting the 7D once my name is reached on the waiting list. It will be a BIG step up from my Rebel XT, so I'm excited of the quality of the volleyball photos that photomarvin posted in comparison to the ones from my XT.
I referee volleyball on the side so I don't get to photograph much volleyball. If I do it's on nights when I don't have matches assigned which is rare during this time of the year because I referee both high school and college matches. I do shoot a lot of basketball though and am excited about putting the 7D to use with my 70-200 2.8L. The gyms for volleyball and basketball are usually very similar if not the same.
Hopefully I'll be notified of my 7D arrival soon!
