p.1 #1 · new Zeiss ZF 35mm/1.4 Distagon?

Erwin Puts seems to have a copy of this lens to play with:

http://www.imx.nl/photo/leica/camera/page155/m9part2.html

seventh paragraph, listing lenses used to compare the M9 and D3X:

"Lenses used are the Summilux-M 1.4/35mm asph and a very new redesigend Zeiss Distagon 1.4/35 with Floating element."

p.1 #3 · new Zeiss ZF 35mm/1.4 Distagon?

I thought the same thing when I read the article yesterday, seems a bit strange. I dismissed it when I couldn't reconcile the differences in field of view between the M9 and the D3x both with 35mm lenses. A 35mm f/1.4 would be awesome though, assuming the smaller aperture performance isn't compromised over the f/2.

I like the way he fails to frame the test image properly with the M9. He's given it a few percent advantage before he even starts. Good old Puts. It's also interesting to see how much more barrel distortion the SLR 35 f1.4 shows, as expected I suppose. Easily fixable though.

I spoke with the people of Zeiss at the IBC, Amsterdam last month.
we discussed their ZF lenses, and the upcoming new ZE lenses.
Then they asked: "How would you like a 35mm f1.4?"

Now I know why they asked......

I have been wondering since they released the ZF 35/2, why not f1.4?

The existing format for Y/C 35/1.4 can not clear the mirror of 5D. But it should be a cup of cake for Zeiss to make some small adjustment to overcome it.

I hope it is true! The 35/1.4 has been one of my most loved lens. Now even better to have one that works on my 5D II without having to shave the mirror.

The Zeiss 35/1.4 (later rubber ring HFT version) for Rollei QBM works withtout a mirror shave on my 5DII (and SLR/C) with Kindai adapter. Amazing lens.

Oooh, ahhh!!! ;p

35/1.4 would be awesomeness on my D700, my fav FL and 1 stop faster than my existing Distagon!

I really hope it's true...

cheers, dave

Did they let the cat out of the bag? I don't see the OP's quote anymore, so perhaps it's been edited and omitted. Perhaps we weren't supposed to know!

Whatever the case, I can keep on anticipating it...

Indeed, I read the paragraph about "a very new redesigend Zeiss Distagon 1.4/35 with Floating element" two hours ago, and now it's gone.
Erwin Puts has edited it out.

Of course this lens would be in the works, I just received my ZF 35 f2 last week. lol
I'm guessing there will be a price difference though.

While it would be cool, it also will not autofocus, have CPU contacts for auto-aperture and will costs close to $2000. All of these make the existing 35/1.4 AIS a winner over the potential ZF for me, I know braniac isn't a fan of its wild bokeh, but for $2000-3000 you could get the 28/1.4 which blows everything else out of the water.

My Distagon 35mm F/1.4 clears on my 5D2 without a problem.

I have owned 3 5D's, 2 5D2's and 3 Distagon 35 f1.4's. I've never had a mirror clearance problem with any of them. Of course I'm not saying you won't, but I suspect that reports of such are probably due to incorrect adaptors. Yes, my distagons do focus to infinity.
