Well it came in today so without reading the manual of course, I went out and took a few shots to share with everyone here who is interested. The AF of the 7D works extremely well. In fact, once it locked on it never let go. The 8fps (something I'll never get used to) is amazing! It is so fast. And quiet too. You can barely hear it. The horizontal and vertical position gizmo is pretty neat, but really something I don't think I'll use much. I wish it was on my 5DmkII though. Anyway, the button layout took only a few minutes to memorize and selecting the AF points proved to be one of these cases where I had too MUCH to choose from haha!!! I think this camera and I are going to have a long happy relationship together. These are all full frame shots. Mind you, I'm still not very good at PP so if these look like doo-doo, I apologize in advance. Oh! Lightroom and CS4 will NOT read these files. I had to use DPP to process them which I really don't like to use very much. Please excuse the large sizes. I wanted folks to see the photos the 7D can produce in my amateur hands.

Haha! I'll put some up tomorrow Ian. I've only been playing with it for 45 minutes. Then the old lady had me doing honey-do chores the rest of the night.

Geeze buddy you got a new camera
Congrats on the new toy bro!!
I could hear the excitement in your voice over the phone buddy and I'm really happy for you!
I know you had to use DPP on these as CS4 doesn't recognize the 7D yet > So I'll go easy on your PP > The first image you've recovered the whites to much and they are now a dusky Grey. Just to much highlight recovery buddy!! Bring the exposure down more in post and a lighter round of highlight recovery!!
They look good and sharp for sure!! Can't wait to give it a try this weekend!!
Make sure you bring it with you on Sat and I'll see what that bad boy does with the EF800 and 1.4x on it With a 1.6x crop factor how many mm does that equate to?
To you my friend

Thanks man. I know I need a LOT of help in the PP department. Its a work in progress I'll bring it Saturday. It should work really well with your 800mm which becomes-----> 800 X 1.6 X 1.4 = 1792mm YIKES!!!

Quicker if he keeps thinking about the 7D+400L combo.
Aaaaaanyway... Show us the real world example mate, not the straight-out-of-camera-no-sharpening-no-NR bullsh*t.
Haha!! Ok I'll try again tomorrow. I had limited time to work with it today. Ant and I are going to try to go shooting this weekend so we'll see just what it can do then. Cheers!

Thanks for posting them. I'd say you did pretty well. Where did you get the camera?
LR 2.5 and CS4 will process the 7D RAW images. The latest update (ACR 5.5) has preliminary support and worked with pre-production images. Perhaps it will not work witht he production images.
By chance, do you have any large files with significant contrast that can be downloaded for study? JPG is fine since I can't yet open a 7D RAW file. I'm trying to get an idea as to how much adjustment the 7D files can take.
