p.1 #1 · Canon Loyalty Program

Not sure if someone posted this already but i searched for "loyalty" and couldn't find anything.

You can trade in broken canon cameras (including DSLR) for a pretty cool upgrade (even 50D kit) for cheap.

not sure what's the policy on linking other site so you guys can google "canon loyalty program" and find more info.

Hope someone can get use out of it. I saw some people asking to buy broken camera in B&S, maybe this is the reason?

It is a program that is alive and well. I've had 2 friends actually use this. The "Trade-Ups" would be: Factory Reconditioned and warrantied Rebel XS for something like $339.00 is you would like to trade in a Film SLR; or the same condition 50D for $649.00 for a 10D series and up. When I spoke to them myself, I asked the phone rep how I'd qualify with my 30D, and he said "If the camera needs any type of service, that is not warranty covered, (i.e. - Shutter Replacement, Sensor cleaning, LCD cover replacement; scratched sensor, blurry viewfinder, etc, etc, you get the idea) then you can choose the option to "Upgrade".

My problem is that I love my 30D and it isn't broken at all, plus I think I could do a little better than $400 if I were to sell it. More info from a tech/rep @ 1-866-443-8002

just my $.02...FWIW

It doesn't have to be a 10D or up to get the 50D. I had 2 Rebel XTi cameras that wouldn't power up that I just traded in for 50Ds. I think you could make up some small problem with the camera because I doubt that they even look at them when you send them back. The address I had to send my cameras to was the Canon Camera Recycling Center.

That deficiency can be easily remedied with a small hammer.

You are absolutely right!!! I think I'm less inclined to do that though, cause a good 30D I think can still fetch $400-$500 which is a better offset to the 50D price than sending in a "broken" camera with a carpenter's finishing hammer sticking out of the lens mount.

I don't think film cameras qualify.

When I spoke to the rep on the phone, He asked specifically if I had a film or digital, and if I wanted to trade-up my EOS 3 for a Rebel XS. I can't see letting a EOS 3 go for one, but if I had a Film Rebel, sure I would.

I have a 10d. I thought about contacting them on the whole 3 seconds it takes to start up but turns out that's what the specs say it takes Why can't that thing just die so I can justify buying a new camera!?!?!

Call the number and ask them how much a "Canon" Factory Cleaning will be, and you should be able to do it like that. Give it a shot...Doesn't hurt to call and ask. The number is in the top of this thread...

Thanks for this information.
I just arranged to trade in my broken (frame cracked) 30D on a 50D.

I broke this camera a week after I bought it and have been bummed out about it ever since. Now at least there's some small recourse to it.

I guess yo could "trade-up" an XTi for the 1Ds III for $6,114.95. But, this will have to be coordinated through B&H, it does include the shipping though...

$629 plus shipping and tax, $672 total I believe.

It would have been $359 for a Rebel XS.

The price was the same for my broken 30D or a good Digital Rebel (first gen) or a 10D all of which I have and asked about.
I may turn in my old Rebel for a new one and give it to my sister for Christmas.

I called and they said that starting Nov 1st they may offer different cameras. This was likely more for P+S though. I asked about a FF dslr upgrade and they said it was not going to happen anytime soon. The XS and 50d are likely to be the only trade up options though there could be a price adjustment starting Nov 1st, perhaps a $50 discount.

A canon film slr is only eligible for the XS/1000d for $349. You can get the 18-55IS for an extra $50. Any canon dslr is eligible for the XS or the 50d. You can make up any story, such as the LCD occassionally goes blank or you get banding in rare instances. The serial number on the camera must be legible though and if it's grey market they won't allow it. I tried trading in my friends 350D which she bought in Germany when she was living there and they said it was not eligible for hte promotion as it is not a USA model.

Too bad they don't have a lens upgrade program though.

Well the fact that its a 350D is a bit of a give away as the US model is a XT.

I've overheard Canon quote some trade up prices to some others while I waited at the Irvine service center. The trade up prices were always higher than what someone could buy the body for here used. And that's without factoring the value of the traded body.

From my direct conversation with the Canon Rep, I was given the numbers:

$639.00 for a 50D Refurb regardless of the digital camera you trade in. There is not a higher allowance for newer models or makes.

$349.00 for a Canon Rebel XS when trading in a Canon film camera, regardless of the body you trade.

So when I look at these numbers, and try to buy a 50D used, I think used price is right at $900 to $1000. And, the Rebel XS is right at $500 to $550. So if you're trading up an older camera that truly needs servicing, I'd understandably weigh the cost of the repair, in terms of worth. If' it's just a cleaning for a 30D, and they offer me the 50D trade-up, I'd politely tell than No Thanks...

But if it was a main board replacement, shutter replacement, or something more substantial, and the trade-up made more sense, by all means get the 50D. If you're just trying to weasel your way into a 50D, then you're skirting what is made to be a very beneficial program.

YMMV...

Can you send in multiple cameras on one trade-in deal? We've got old SLR's - AE-1, T-50 and a T-90. Guess I should call and see what they'll do for us!

I "traded" in two XTi's for 2 50D's. They set them up as separate orders but I did it all on one phone call.
