alexhibbert Offline Upload & Sell: Off p.1 #1 · 1D classic for sports I've decided to branch out to help supplement stock income and plan to start shooting university level sports, for which there is a strong market in prints. Am I crazy to consider the classic 1D 4MP body? Seems to go for £300 or so in the UK...... I used to shoot with the 1D2N and changed it recently for the 5D Mk2, a decision I'm delighted with for 90% of my work. Am I getting withdrawal symptoms from the 1D2N (!) and is the 5D2 actually fine for this purpose? Would the 1D throw up any nasty surprises? Thanks Sep 06, 2009 at 10:43 AM

Wouldn't it be possible to use the existing DC coupler battery insert and connect it to a battery pack? The 1D LCD panel was backlit by a flourescent tube and is the main reason for the low battery life. Anything newer uses LED for backlighting. Sep 06, 2009 at 06:10 PM

400d Offline Upload & Sell: Off p.1 #8 · 1D classic for sports It's as simple as it gets. There are some capacitors in the coupler battery, probably for keeping the voltage up when the body is pulling too much current over a short period time. The DIY pack I have seems to handle the current pretty well. The blue one is 12*1.2V energyON low discharge NiMH cells, some have issues with it, I haven't used it extensively so I can't comment. I have shot 3k shots on the LiFePO4 without recharging so far, the voltage remains at 13.2V. It's a simple 4S1P configuration, and a BMS to protect the pack from overcharging/discharging. The connector is Anderson powerpole 15A, the coil cable is an old Quantum flash cable. You can even use a similar configuration to build pack for Mark III bodies. Sep 06, 2009 at 06:45 PM
