Lovely shots except N°3 Jim. That one just took my breath away. I had, some time ago sold off my Canon 100mm macro to fund my purchase of a 5D MkII and not felt bad about exiting macro and flower shots. How do you think I feel now? Aaaaghhhhh, intense withdrawal.....
Hopefully ZE 100 macro will be out this year, otherwise I will have to fork out for a Voigtländer 125. I just hate all of you people.
Thanks, AhamB. I am just as bad with putting names to flowers as I am to faces.
Thanks, Philber. I loved my Canon macro, but this Leica brings a new definition to "subtlety." Where the Canon would have gotten everything flattened tonally, the Leica kept the detail and color. Could be coatings on the lens or a different aspect of the design. Either way, I like it.
Hmmm, I would really like to have some APO action, but very few lenses truly deliver it. Many lenses carry the APO designation, but don't cut it. In fact, the Zeiss 100 ZF that I use (and sometimes it is prone to CA that can be bothersome) is more APO than many others that claim to be APO. Only my Voigtlander 180 beats it.
Maybe investment in some Leica glass is needed? (slippery slope, here I come!)
I sold my Sigma 100-300 APO (Nikon) when I picked up my 1D MK II. Now I'm wondering about getting it again in the Canon mount ... or do I go with prime APO. I currently have no APO lenses in my bag.
If you had to PICK ONE ... which APO would you put in your bag?

I've used a few Leica APO lenses: 100 APO-Macro, 180 f/3.4 APO-Telyt, 180 f/2.8 APO-Elmarit, 280 f/4 APO-Telyt, 280 f/2.8 APO (pre-modular) and if I were forced to pick only one it would be the 280 f/4:

+1 My thoughts exactly. But I would like my one APO lens to be macro, as, for the rest, I will be pretty well covered with a full range of Zeiss glass
This is my first APO, so I can't tell you about others that are better or more versatile. All that I can tell you is that it will not be my last APO lens.
Very often ED Nikkor lenses have apo characteristics, but all ED really indicates is the use of Extra-low Dispersion glass types.
The UV-Nikkor lenses are typically apochromatic (in a truer sense of the word) and use quartz or similar materials. They aren't common or cheap though. Manufactured for medical use, and available in a 55mm and 105mm focal length.

That's what I thought . . .

Seems odd that Nikon wouldn't have true APO lenses ... yet Sigma makes a few of them (at least labled as such ... my 100-300 APO was good).
