p.2 #1 · should i get a 5d mark II

There is a lot to photograph here that would benefit from a higher resolution camera body. Depending on what you shoot and your shooting style, I would recommend the 5D Mk2. And depending where you are in France, there should be some very lovely light around that time of the year.

Once you've used FF and super fast primes, there's no going back.

It's really a no-brainer. If you can afford to get this terrific camera, you should. The high ISO will handheld shots that will not be available to you on your current gear.

So good he said it twice

It's true, the 5D2 is an exceptionally good well balanced camera producing wonderful files. It could just have done with a more modern focusing system is all

I went from a 40D to a 5D. I lost some things like 6.5fps and larger view screen, etc... but even for an "older" camera... the Digic processer on FF on the 5D blows away the image quality on the 40D (using a decent lens).

I've got my soul on Ebay right now hoping it will sell enough for a 5D mark II.

If you just want to go wider, get a wide lens, as others have said.

But if you really want the 5DII, buy the 5DII+24-105L Kit for £2589 (quick look on Jacobs website). You could then sell the 24-105L as you already have one. The lens in the kit will only cost you £500 - you should be able to sell for more than that?
