Free PR for Canon (can be good or bad) but they will in the end still sell crap loads of these cameras...because people will always 'need' the next best thing!

The 30D wasn't quite a hot pancake, either.
well the 30D was one the weakest upgrades in history, but that said there was not really horrible moaning then since nikon was still (or so we thought ) hopelessly decades behind so it was awfully boring but also good since no enticement to spend more money if you already had a 20D and it was not like you saw anything in any way shape or form better over at nikon or anywhere else

Yes, after the 30D it was next worst. That is when the Li Ion batteries should have been used and an increase to 10MP. Not really sure why they did the IIn.
Canon was really asleep at the wheel at that time and thought that what they had was plenty good enough. It appeared that they only needed bigger LCDs to stay well ahead of the competition. I think the writing was on the wall when Nikon launched the D200. They were playing a very aggressive game (giving users everything they wanted at attractive prices) and really only needed a decent sensor to land Canon in trouble.
I still have a 30D and it's a great camera but it's no D300.

Yet everyone I know who has one adores the thing, Whayne, (they're very popular with bird 'togs, predictably) and they sell for much, much more than the Mk II on the UK used market - I recently saw a Mk II and a Mk IIn for sale on the same second-hand kit site, both in very good nick and with similar shutter counts, and the IIn was about £700 more!

And yet the 5D II has been recognised by the (well respected) European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) as "European Advanced Camera of the year" for 09/10, with the D3X winning the pro body award.

I didn't say the 1D IIn was in any way inferior, just as an update it was about as disappointing as the 30D. If you were just buying into the 1 series, this is clearly a great camera.

Oh I know, Whayne -I'm just pointing out an odd inconsistency in the perceived value of two very similar bodies.
Well it's like cars; the 18 month newer model will always get more money, even if it's the same car, with the same kilometres. let alone an updated model.

Here's a good read re: the 1d2n upgrade (and it jibes with what many nature/bird photogs experienced).
Yes it is about a potential MK IV and lots of FM"ers is afraid of MK IV following the reputation of 30D , 1D MKIIn , 50D being "marginal" upgrades to there predecessors
on the other hand newer camera should be better then previews one , which was not a case with 40D and its Ai Servo performance in low light the 30D wins hands down. Lets hope Canon makes MK IV a GOOD ONE !!!!!! for you guys , and then I can get MK III after price of it goes down more .
