p.1 #1 · D1X problems

I have 2 D1X cameras, both mint, practically new with the same problem.

they will not go into the menu
the delete button does nothing
the mode button does nothing ( can only change mode using camera control )
the monitor button does nothing.
2 button reset does nothing

other than that, they work great - firmware is 1.1.0 I think

anyone have any suggestions (other than a repair shop)
is this a common problem?

thanks !

Never heard of this before, especially on 2 bodies. I can't think of any settings on the custom menus that would cause this. I'd send one of them to Nikon repair to diagnose the problem, then, if it's worth the money to you, get them repaired. Although they are older bodies, they still produce incredible images.

The one I have has the buffer upgrade with firmware 5.** and no problems like the one you describe.

I recently got 2 of these (sold 1) and I researched this body fairly extensively but never heard of or came cross this issue.

Seems very odd that both camera bodies would exhibit the exact same problems.

Do you have Nikon Capture, or the trial of Camera Control Pro, to see if you can save the settings and then reset the camera? The camera is not set on Play or PC, is it?

Please report back if you find out the cause of the problem as I have a D1H (same family), and I'd like to know what to do if this happens to mine.

I did have a similar problem one time with functions not working. I had put in a fully charged battery, but what I didn't know was that the battery was so old that it couldn't generate enough juice to fully run the camera.

I bought a brand new battery, fully charged it and that fixed the problem with my camera.

Good point Lisa,

batteries are a real issue with the D1 family and on the D1x it blacks out the viewfinder readings when the battery gets low to conserve power.

Something really has caught my attention and it is that you have the same problem with both cameras.
I would say that is kind of unusual.
My D1X is already 7 years old. Never an issue with it. We already know the batteries require periodic charge because even without use they discharge on a daily basis. I refresh them periodically.
I am interested in knowing why your cameras behave like that. Perhaps Nikon could give you an answer over the phone.
The D1X produces excellent images with gorgeous colors.

I had 2 d1x. Just sold one. I think you might have saved a process in camera control.
I had to get Nikon capture to remove my copyright from the camera before selling it. Do all reset, and also check if the dial is not set to pc.
