Could you perhaps mount a normal 3ft octabox on the quadra? Or would you need the adapter?
They have those little softboxes for the D-lites right, the umm..... help me out someone. They're small and light and the poles aren't long you actually have to fix them together, and the inner diffusion panel is a little cloudy lid like thing that hooks into the umbrella shaft.
Anyway it's so light, I suspect you could use that without the adapter. Am I right?
The amazing thing is that it actually works very well.
In a way it should not be amazing. I read some where that they designed the Quadra/adapter to put out the same light as their full sized units
It was great when I needed to take the octa off the stand so I could convert it to a boom. It was so light compared with when I tried the same with the RX600 fitted

Would you use one if I came up with a camera bracket for it and the Quadra. How 'bout the 190?
Looks tailor-made for it. Uber-small, light, powerful (enough it would seem), wls control, only needs to support it's own weight and the battery pack would make a nice counterweight ;> The ability to use existing Ranger heads is a nice touch. My wish list just got longer.. ;>
Oh, Skyports + 1Ds2 = 1/200 sync vs 1/250th with cord or SB-24 as IR trigger.
Just picked up my new Quadra today at Ft. Worth Camera. I got the pack and A head. Jeff said he had a two A head kit that would be in tomorrow. Put my order in for the stand adapter. It is really small. Can't wait to get out and shoot some portraits.
Hmm... the quadra looked quite interesting after they were announced, and now it seems even more after hearing some testimonials. I'm just worried that the power may not be enough for the work I want to do in the field. Although I will say, the weight of carrying around the rangers are getting to me... esp. when some shoots constantly involve me carrying everything by myself. Spencer, have you used it yet for any wedding related assignments? I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the pics.
I guess it would be more appealing to me if the price was lower but then what wouldn't I would love to replace a couple of monolights with the battery pack system.
I would bet that pricing this product was a little tricky for Elinchrom. Most people probably only need the 400 watts and the light weight. If they priced it too low it would severely eat into their top of the line Ranger sales. However, it does have a lot of features like the built in RX so it was never going to be too much lower.
In any case, the Quadra still comes out cheaper with more features and with 2x heads for the price of the Profoto - granted you lose 1/2 stop power on the high end. So I think it was priced right.
Some photos I took with the Quadra this Sunday - this product ROCKS!!:
No polarizer. Just adjusted contrast/exposure in Aperture.
1 Quadra A head (Not on full power). Portalite softbox....... close enough to the subject where I can underexpose the background by 1-2 stops.
I am the one who posted that i use two SB800s side by side in another chat on the Quadra.
I did buy a Ranger speed and A head system and have been using it every day now - day 5 today.
I love the ranger but for some sessions i do not need the 1100 watts of power in fact to test this i have used the ranger in the B side at 366 watts and that has worked out very well at sunset.
So i am going to buy a Quadra as well as soon as i can find one to buy.
I will use it for the days i do not need the extra power plus the Ranger is very heavy to carry around walking like we do everyday so the Quadra will be a lot better for that to.
Will use the Ranger for our afternoon sessions and when we have larger groups like today we had 15 people.
Have a ?s
Will everything i have for the ranger fit on the Quadra?? DB and Ranger wide reflector ?
