For those who are looking for the quadra adaptor to use for beauty dish and etc, B&H is the source to go for now. They order directly from bogen and drop shipped to my house. I ordered one on Monday and just got it today.

WOW.......B&H still don't have the Quadra's in stock on their website. Was just at the store yesterday and the Elinchrom booth is missing all the Ranger Speed AS (except for 1 Ranger RX). Maybe they are making space for the Quadra.

Yea, the website shows "accepting order", but once I placed the order, it got changed to "drop ship". And 3 days later... UPS man shows up.

I called Pictureline the day that Amazon posted their Quadra kits for pre-order. Pictureline ordered it for me, same pricing and everything.

I'm not too big on using 2 heads with this kit, 400ws is already a bare min for my shooting on some stuff, so further decreasing it for my location work wouldn't cut it very well.

The softbox adapter seems very well made, but, even when tightened, it seems to still creep down a bit. It could be stronger, but so far it looks great. I had a small softbox attached, I wouldn't hesitate putting the DO on it.

Like Carmen said, it'd be easier to charge a spare battery whilst shooting in studio with the other battery. It charges very quick.

clausjepsen, I'm getting 1/200 with skyports and 5D2 just fine . . .

roanjohnnyc - did you do the mod on the adaptor? I have a 36" deep throat and want to use the adaptor with it.

I have two S heads and I have also used them on 1/200, but on a lowkey portrait in the studio, I could see, that it was a bit darker in one of the sides.

Is there any difference from S and R heads or is it all up to the camera? (G9 can go much higher, because of the shutter construction - right?)

sync speeds = It's all up to the camera, it has nothing to do with flash durations.

As I mentioned earlier the sync speed is related to the camera. Yes a G9 will sync faster, I have a G10 for that purpose but hardly use the camera at all.

I get 200th with my 5D2 but there is some slight darkening at the bottom of the screen. Which is where it should be for shutters and sync. Someone mentioned corner darkening that is probably caused by the lens you use, or the lens hood, or maybe the actual light fall off from the strobe.

The different heads hold faster or slower flash durations, this would be useful for fast moving subjects only... Flash duration = ability to stop motion. Sync Speed = ability to shoot in brighter lights with lower f/stop numbers..

You can charge a spare battery in less time than you can deplete one. My Quadra spares are charging full in about an hour. I went with the 2 light/2 battery kit and I'm glad I did. For one thing you can tether the standard cords for extra length, which you can't do with the Ranger.

I'm still testing my new Quadras, but I really like them so far. I'll reserve general comments till

Cool good to know, I wanted to know if the battery charges faster then you could drain (on typical use) the battery your using... I wasn't asking because I'd use them in studio, that was just the easiest way to get my question across.. I was more thinking if I used the sucker for a wedding and it was outdoors... It was more a curiosity question then anything else.

Looks like a winner to me to, I just hate the Elinchrom mount, I'm not using my BX lights for that reason currently. The compactness beats the AcuteB600 by a lot it seems. Oh and it's lighter AFAIK, so it would be a good option for me, + 2 lights per pack plus two batteries for the price of an AcuteB...

Adam,

Yes, its far more compact, light and easier to manage out in the field than the AcuteB 600R. I just sold my Acute, regretted it until the second my Quadra arrived.

I may end up using mine in the studio and having it plugged in

It is nice to have the option of one or two more lights in the studio. One big bonus in the studio for me is that as the head is so light I can use the collapsable reflector holder I have as an extra boom arm and the compactness gives me more room with my low ceiling when setting up a hair light. The Quadra 18cm reflector and grids is perfect for that roll.

for me, pocket wizards will generally sync to 1/200th on the 5d mk II, whereas skyports get to 160.

Have not done the mod yet, however, here is the link on how to do it.

Skyports give me 1/200 true sync on my 1Ds3 (which is capable of 1/250).

I just found a nice hard cap for my heads - it is the lid of a cup with instant noodles - It even got a small round grip at the end - much cheeper than tupperware, and then you also have lunch for two persons

I just had the greatest of ideas.....
Well let me actually try to make one, I think I'll pick up a Quadra for a wedding I'm doing soon.
If all works out well I'll post the photos.

Thanks for all the info, and please post more about the lights if something pops up.

Got some senior shots I'm gonna post here soon from my first outing with the Quadra. Didn't get any pics of the setup, but it was freaking nice to work with.

Today I received the Quadra adapter in time for this evenings shoot

I was planning to use the 190cm indirect octa and thought, why not

http://www.pbase.com/hopkinsfoto/image/115222178/original.jpg

The Quadra made the octa much lighter than usual for when it was hanging out on the boom. Not surprisingly the modelling light was pretty useless

I might look at doing Carmen's mod to the mount, but I don't know if I will ever use the DO with the Quadra. I sort of expect that I will take my Ranger if I am going to use the larger modifiers, but you never know

I am more interested in the cable adapter I ordered shows up so I can use the Quadra pack with the RF or a Ranger head (as a 2nd light)
