This looks like nest on the side of Cross Bay Blvd. We did not see the chicks when we were there last weekend. The chicks should be taking flight in a few weeks and that will be a treat. Very nice photos.

Thanks for viewing and the kind words, Morris. You are quite right, they seemed to appear only this past week.
Thanks for viewing and picking a favorite, Conrad. Number 9 is one of my favorites, also. It's always exciting to view them coming in for a landing, shedding lift, and talons forward.
Thanks for viewing and picking favorites, Lil! You never feel that it is a lot of time. You always want to stay just one more hour. The feeling is that during the NEXT hour something amazing will happen. Then again everyone has a story of the photo that got away - years ago, ran out of film, or today didn't bring that extra battery, or camera set at wrong setting. It's that feeling that next time we can do better! So we try and try again.
I got to visit Jamaica Bay for the first time today. I'm from Indianapolis, but am visiting my cousin in Brooklyn. I left the 500 at home, so had a 70-200 plus 2X TC... Kinda frustrating actually. Anyway, are these from the nest that is visible from the highway (my assumption) or from the next visible from the west trail?
I was really thrilled to bird this area today. I added no less than five lifers today, which hasn't happened in quite sometime--American oystercatcher, Black Skimmer, Boat Tailed Grackle, Gull-billed Tern, and the lowly fish crow. I've done almost all of my birding in Indiana, so we of course miss out on these coastal species!
