p.1 #1 · Heading to Vegas...

...and don't have much interest in gambling. I've got a whole day without the the spouse, while she attends classes and meetings. I'm thinking about renting a car for the day and getting out of the city. Can anyone recommend places to go that are nearby Vegas that would be good photographically? I'll shoot just about anything. I went to Hoover dam last time...

Thanks!

Jeff

Take a trip out to Red Rock , great landscapes and some wildlife. I did it last year and had a great time, went twice.

Visit the Bellagio conservatory and botanical gardens at the Bellagio Casino. It is usually crowded but worth it!

For wild life photography without getting heatstoke go to the Rio Hotel, I was there a year ago this time and there were hot babes everywhere near the pools. I'm sure you can capture shots of all the wildlife in their thongs or micro bikini, just make sure your gear is splash proof.

I was going to say Antelope Canyon, which is just a few hour drive from LV,
but Carlsbadbum's idea obviously makes lots more sense )

Red Rock is good; also try Valley of Fire. Frankly it is usually so hot at this time of year that I'd shoot only early in the mornings.

Cedar Breaks is about 3 hours north of Vegas. It's very pretty, and the cool, fresh air at 10,000 ft. will feel great.

Head for the Virgin River Gorge, in Arizona, less than 100 miles north on the I-15. You can stop in Mesquite, Nevada, for refreshments. The dramatic rock formations will provide plenty of photographic opportunities, even if you just stop by the side of the road. Take a circular polarizer for your lens.
