Dress is a bit blown out. Focus doesn't appear to be very sharp. Next time, use a lower ISO so grain isn't so noticeable.

There is a webpage that shows a series of iconic photos taken by the masters and the critiques offered by the forum peanut gallery, much like Jim has done here. Funny stuff.

It's a riot, but I've lost the link.

Thanks for this post, Evan! I love that shot. I've been hovering between elegance and edginess for a while. I think Avedon had a lovely way of maintaining an elegance in his shots while pushing for something more. I love the movement - I think movement really makes an image.

I'm guessing in 1949 it was more on the edgy side. Thanks for posting Evan!
