Hey Frank,

Do you ever get moire on the fabrics with the aptus 22? I thought this back was bad about that, but I never see it in your images.

Also, shot 4 would be so much better if you steamed out the wrinkles.

Shots were taken during one of our basic workshops and to be honest I'm a bit less perfectionistic on the clothing than

Moire can be an issue, but only when you are not taking care of it.
In other words, it's not as bad as some people will make you think.
Yes it can happen, no it's not every session.
IF it happens there are two options.

1. you can remove it by tilting the camera slightly, often it's just a small angle change.
2. the leaf software has a great moire removal tool that works very very well.

So in the end it's not a real issue most of the time.

Dare I say it?
esp in the first the lighting angle is not as flattering to your model as your lighting (which is usually awsome) is in No 4 with her face turned a little more toward the source.
to err is human.
Quite a come down........ I was beginning to think that as far as lighting goes you were god

The light on this series was a fair bit harscher than what I normally use to be complete.
It's something I've been playing with for some sessions and decided to do it a bit more over the top for this one.

PERSONALLY I like the more gritty light but that's 100% personal of course.

I don't know what you mean with quite a come down, sometimes pose and expression is way more important than having one shadow correct, for number one especially the pose and position of the model is the reason I love that shot, light is less "perfect" than on 2-3 indeed but the pose is much stronger, because they were shot during one of the basic workshops I teach I don't have the time to reshoot the same pose to get the light 100% correct.
Trust me, for commercial work I would

In the essence light is only a tool to get a photo, in the end the photo has to work on many different levels, but you are right I love it when the technique is 100% ok (or as good as one can get) but sometimes, I just don't care if everything else is working for me......
Hope that does make sense ?
Remember I don't say never take care of your lights, in my opinion it's very important to always try to get perfect lights, but I will say that you should not be only obsessed by light....

Can you elaborate a bit more on the lighting set-up(s)? Like what (Elinchrom) modifiers did you use and how did you place them?

Placement varies per series but is easy to see, look at the shadows and you can read the placement quite easily.


Modifiers used :
1.90 mtr octa for fill and deep octa without diffuser for main.
On the red material shots the Elinchrom maxispot.

And the last one a striplight was added for accent.

Do you like the effect of the maxispot in the 1st three pictures? It produces a rather harsh/contrasty light, that may not be very suitable for females... What is your take on it?

I am sorry, I think I misunderstood you... by red material you mean #4,5,6?

If so, amazing... I mean, is the DO without diffusers that harsh / contrasty? I have never used mine without diffusers.

And is the maxi-spot that silky? How far did you place the maxispot?

The maxispot is indeed very nice
without difussion the deep octa is very contrasty from a distance.
