I've been working on lighting and color. I know what I like in that reguard but thought I would get some comments from you guys who really know what they are doing. I have some headshots taken on the beach, a couple I worked with in pp and then a shot on the beach that I wanted in B&W but can't get the look just as I want.
1. Brooke with rich colors
2. Just a little desaturated
3. Almost B&W
4. Lily in bright sun with just a little fill flash
5. Same in B&W
6. Jackson and Lexi on a beach in B&W
That shot is so over exposed that it's hard to do anything. But having been hanging around here for the past couple of years and lurking, I have managed to pick up a couple of pointers from the people who are really good. If you could get one of those guys/gals to make some of their adjustments, you might really be suprised what they can acomplish. Me, I'm just learning this stuff.

Me too. I always ask for cc and suggestions. On this particular picture I was going for an almost washed out look with some detail left in her face. It took me a long time to get it that way I actually took her out of another shot and put the background behind it with some left to right spotlight in the background in the same direction the sun was coming from. I saw a picture like that once and was trying to get the same effect. Also, just learning CS4. Sometimes I work on a shot so long I end up having to just start over, man...layers are a wonderful thing.
I understand what you're saying. I took the color pic and did a minor levels and curves adjustment to get rid of the pink/megenta tone and then desaturated. Increased contrast and decreased brightness.... basicly undoing everything you were trying to accomplish. Wouldn't you know..
